You have the big yellow thing in the sky?:( send it down south please I've not seen it since March, and it's rained every so**ing day since.mrbadexample wrote: »Trip to ALDI on Thursday methinks, for another 100l water butt.
Now Aldi is not that near me but.....those self watering plant pots/troughs are 1/2 the price of the homebase ones I was going to get for mums place so worth a trip just for them.
And wish I had some gutters to collect rain water from, thats the trouble with being 1st floor, it would have to be suspended mid air:eek:0 -

Also still waiting for parsnips. Also need to attend to the carrot winning. Also need to pot on tomatoes and peppers.
I'm ahead on the beetroot stakes though - I've got about 7 different varieties going well.
I ordered some snowball turnips and candela di fuoco radishes from eBay - should be here tomorrow all being well.
I went and had a look at some local allotments today. Pretty overgrown but no waiting list as far as I can tell. I'm half tempted, even though I am only trying to feed me and there really is enough room in the garden. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Are they full size allotments or half? In theory I'd love an allotment but practically I doubt I'd have the time to attend one at the moment.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0

Either, from what I could gather. Had a good old chat to one of the plot holders. They're not council allotments, but an association. Full plots are £47 per year - second year is free.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

They were really weird looking potatoes, mbe, I thought they were beans when I first saw the pic
Tbh, if I get any crop of anything in my first year I'll be over the moon!! I'm taking the view that I'm just learning this year. You have the big yellow thing in the sky?:( send it down south please I've not seen it since March, and it's rained every so**ing day since.
Past tense ~ it's gone now & it's drizzling again with more rain forecastWe had 3 weeks of rain & general coldness before yesterday's brief interlude of the big yellow thing. I want warm, sunny days!!
Update on seedlings:
7 mint
1 basil
8 marigolds (6 definite, 2 just poking their heads up)
1 nasturtium (although it looks like a little pink worm at the moment)
2 sweet peas
Still waiting on peppers, chillis (only just planted them & instructions said can take up to 30 days to pop up!!), rosemary, chives, parsley & more nasturtiums...
Still have mixed salad leaves, spring onions, radish, potatoes & raspberry cane to plant.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Sounds exciting. My neighbour has an allotment & she comes home with barrow loads of stuff (there's 3 of them though). I've been wondering whether to put my name down, because by the time my name comes up I should know what I'm doing.
Is the allotment nearby?? Your back garden is very handyIf you did get one is it possible that you could trade any surplus with other people for other stuff, not just fruit & veg??

Yesterday I complained that I had no spring onions.
Today I have spring onions. :rotfl:
Today I have walking onion seedlings, anybody know if they could be walking this year?"We could say the government spends like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money."
