Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

KazLA - grow your bindweed up a cane, and then drop the leaves and stalk in a jar of weedkiller. You need to get weedkiller on the roots as digging them out will take you hundreds of years (I have giant, rampant bindweed...).0

The only way I managed to get rid of my bindweed problem was to move house. :-(
And yes, when we were house-hunting, I was peering round every garden for any sign of the damn stuff! There's none anywhere near us here! :-DI'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

I dont do anything special to it just top dress it in spring and net it when the fruit starts looking ready, 2 years ago my huppy was eagerly anticipating the first crop only to go up there and find the whole lot had been pinched by pidgeons i think!
Thank you bluemeadow, that does helpSome information I've read says that gooseberries don't do well in pots, possibly they mean long-term though. I think I will get one, probably the Hannonmaki yellow & I'll put it in the big terracotta pot I bought from Morrison's the other week.
KazLA, that doesn't sound too good with your pear trees, what variety are they??
Miserable weather today & I think I've probably drowned some of my seedsFound some still standing in water from a couple of days ago

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Well done MBE.
I would have liked one but unfortunately I haven't been picked.
Good that you got one though.
I don't think it's too fair the way they run these draws, there is an awful lot of newbies who only register to post for this, then they're not seen again. How do they know the same person isn't registering again and again?
I don't meant to sound as if it's sour grapes, I honestly think they should limit the draws for stuff like this to people who have posted a certain amount or who have been a member for x amount of time.
The UltimateHandyman site has particular criteria about who can enter if they are offering stuff and it works well.
Do you have a scanner? :whistle::DHerman - MP for all!0 -

I saw your name on the list.
I think that's why they select names from the thread at random, then PM 150 posters asking for details. That way a newbie that isn't about or using the site won't respond in time - only the first 50 get a book.
I was lucky enough to be online at the time the PM came through, so replied in about 20 minutes.
And yes, I have a scanner. Quite a nice new one, as it happens. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Well done!!
Of course I will share the pearls of wisdom I acquire, pretending that they are my own, naturally. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Thanks for the tip about growing up canes and then using weed killer, will definitely try that. The allotment is even worse:
Have dug up piles of the stuff:
Dread to think how much it has overtaken in the last few weeks when we haven't been there.
The pears are conference (which had bad leaves last year) and Williams Bon Cheretien which had bugs last year, but bad leaves this year:
Was really looking forward to getting some pears this year0
