Found some onions that I'd forgotten about and the look ok, can I still use them? The aroma was lovely when weeding round them. Am I wierd?
Try cutting one in half. If it looks ok...then it's ok! And yes, you are.cheekyweegit wrote: »Finally well done everyone, I'm very impressed with what you've done and can't wait to see the finished pond mbe.Well done MBE, looks great and bigger than I thought it would be :j
Ta. It is bigger than it was meant to be. I think I stretched it a bit when I'd laid out the shape and then decided it needed moving a bit. That does mean that I've got a bit less liner left over than I wanted, so haven't got enough to line my bog barrel. That can be improvised though.
I've got to start draining it a bit, as I need to modify it. I need to make an edge to the sloping shelf so stuff doesn't fall off into the deep bits. It should be easy enough to do - take a few buckets of water out, lift the liner off the shelf, then use the last bit of turf cut into a strip about 2" wide to make an edge. Then pop the liner back over and refill. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Greenhouse, seedling & now potting shed envy, the list goes on...
I've been to Morrison's this morning & bought:
Spring onion seeds (white lisbon)
Radish seeds (scarlet globe)
Lettuce seeds (mixed salad leaves)
Broccoli seeds (early purple sprouting)
Seed potatoes x 5 (charlotte)
I also bought the black flower buckets (8 for 99p) so please tell me I can grow some of the above ^^ in them?? Also, I'm presuming I need to make holes in the bottom of the buckets before I plant anything?? How do I do this, please??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Did you only get 8? My local Morrisons just puts a pile of them together with the 99p tape round them - a week or so ago I got 21 for my 99p. :money:
I use a drill to make the holes, but you have to be very gentle or they have a tendency to split. You could also heat something up (old screwdriver, copper pipe etc) and use it to melt a hole through. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Still waiting for the frosts to pass by. This is getting frustrating.
So much so that I got into working on mowing lawns and stuff this weekend - just for an excuse to be doing something.
I'm waiting to get everything outdoors after the frosts have stopped, & also after the winds forecast for this week have passed.
I'm growing peas for the irst time. I have plenty of canes. Do I grow them on frames, like beans? IIRC they don't grow as tall. Do I use nets for them to grow up?
Please help! I lost all my pea plants last year! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I got a frame with netting on to grow mine on that means I can grow on both sides. I am sure you could use canes only but as they don't grow as tall as beans you won't need the height its more about supporting them lower down. I grow mine indoors as they always get eating by slugs if I try sowing home outdoors. I plant them out and then help them along with string, little canes etc until they get hold of the netting. (I think you can see my peas on the picture a few posts pack - 4 th picture)
There are different types of peas some grown taller than others.
Final tip I start mine off at different intervals so I have a longer period of harvest. No of mine ever make it to the pot they get eaten in the garden.Save £12k in 25 No 49

21?! That is so not fair!! :rotfl: How on earth did you manage that?? The 8 bought today had yellow tape around them with '99p for 8' on. I wish I'd bought more actually.
I'm not looking forward to making holes in them ~ that should be fun... _pale_ Do you think about 5 holes per pot??
So... radish, spring onion, lettuce, broccoli ~ can I use the flower buckets for these?? If so, how many seeds per bucket do you normally put in??
Btw, what have you put in your 21 buckets??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Unless you are making holes with a hot implement, then wait until they are warm, as they are less brittle then. So a hot day after they've been in the sun, or bring them inside next to a radiator, then drill a hole... and as someone else said, gently does it.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

They just want to get rid of them. The same 99p for 8 tape is on them, you just get more.
5 holes per pot is what I do. To be honest, you're pushing it a bit with broccoli as it's a big plant; I tried a cauliflower last year but it wasn't great. For the rest, just put in however many seeds you would put in that amount of ground.
I haven't put anything in my buckets yet, I just bought them because there were 21!I will be using them for tomatoes, chillies and peppers. Oh, and cucumbers, plus anything else that needs a big pot.

I hope this works, and that the weight of water is sufficient to hold it in place:
Because I had to nearly empty the pond to get the liner to move that far, and I don't want to have to do that again. Let's just say everything's been well-watered.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I would like the pebble shelf to look something like this:
And I don't know why Photobucket sometimes turns my pictures sideways. :mad:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
