ooh, Dawn - lovely news re the pension!

Thanks for lovely comments

Hmm, OH's pension is small - only just over 8k p.a. He does also have a micro business that made £200 profit last financial year :rotfl:
You can tell I married him for his money and business acumen, can't you? :rotfl:
I could get something part time - unless I were made my redundant, I couldn't get my pension for another 7 years.
We will see... I am curious to see what happens in the latest round of restructuring. If there is something in it for me, I will stay longer. If just more of the same, I will leave at Christmas (because I have season tickets for the train and car park till then, and do not want to lose money on these :rotfl:)
Not bothered either way
I realise that I am in a very priviledged position
That is all to be decided later. For now, I have just updated my sig - it seems I am currently £25.37 away from being mortgage neutral - right, off to make an OP :rotfl:0 -

You can get quite a lot for £8000 - that's what my pension is - and I am mortgage free so that helps. I also have my nest egg for treats but current caring responsibilities don't give me much time to treat myself. I think you are doing the right thing Dawn - and you will succeed!!John0 -
Right, just scraped up £100 to OP

Given interest etc that should keep us mortgage neutral till the next payment comes out and I get next month's balance
Might be able to scrape together more OPs by the end of the month - will see what I can do
We have our 40th anniversary at the end of the month, so might need to 'do' something - OH thought the kids might organise something, and I had to remind him that they won't know if we don't tell them - they weren't there :rotfl:
Also OH is off to Ireland on his annual fishing holiday straight after, so he will need some money for that. Not a great deal, as he stays with friends, but there is fuel to buy, and his share of the ferry costs, maybe a bit for food. Not much for spends as there aren't many shops where they go (which is handy :money:)
Pouring with rain outside, but had a lovely dinner of spaghetti bolognese, chocolate beetroot cake, strawberries and cream, and it smells gorgeous in here (despite the dog, who seems to have a bit of wind ) as I have cut lots of little bunches of sweet peas
I am growing them in a tub on the patio, and they need cutting most days - the more you cut, the more you get. Loads of free, really pretty, sweet smelling cut flowers, well, I paid 50p for the plants I suppose, and maybe the same again for compost
They look beautiful in my collection of pretty mugs and vases from charity shops and junk markets
Just what you need with a smelly dog :rotfl:
Right off to bed early I think. Friday tomorrow :j
OH went ages ago as he went to his daft once a fortnight job that involves him getting up at 1am and not getting back till 7pm for very little pay :eek:0 -
Hello DawnW. Thought I'd return the compliment and visit you
I am a chook lover too - 5 fat girls so we have many lovely egg based meals in our house. Although, reading your wonderful menus I think I might have to move in with you! :rotfl:

Hi Dawn
Great news about being able to pay off the mortgage in the next few months. I'm really pleased for you.0 -
Friday evening - thank goodness. I have felt really tired and unmotivated today

Lots of housework to do this weekend
Must also start mealplanning again, as I have got a bit lax over grocery spending lately
Not too bad though as we have lots of home grown veg, so must try to plan meals around those, especially as there is very little room in the freezer
We had pork chops, new potatoes, broad beans and courgettes this evening, which was very nice, and more choc beetroot cake with a few berries from the garden and a little cream for dessert. There still seems to be loads of the cake left - it was huge
Very nice though
Right, might start a bit of dusting in the dining room

I could take some of that cake off your hands if you're struggling :rotfl:https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6623005/happy-days-in-our-golden-years/p1?new=1

Got up early (again) and cleaned the chickens out (the glamour!) which my back didn't like much, but the chickens are enjoying their nice clean straw

Boiled eggs for breakfast now I think

I haven't had boiled eggs for ages, that's my breakfast sorted out - thank you.
We are spending the morning weeding the garden and digging up potatoes for dinner
