Hey all,
I haven't had a chance to read all of the thread yet but wanted to say hi to everyone that's feeling down. It's very wet and windy here and considering it's the first day of my holiday I'm not feeling that great either.
I know I shouldn't mope and don't want to add to the depression but I'm really suffering today as my beautiful cat died last night. He wasn't even 4 years old and was such a healthy, happy boy it has really shocked me. It didn't help that I watched him take his last breath and couldn't do anything to help. That was at 4 am this morning and as it happened on my bedroom floor I couldn't stay in my room and didn't manage to get back to sleep. I took him to the vets this morning and am waiting to hear from them so I can go and collect his ashes to scatter in my garden.
Again, sorry to bring everyone down but I just needed to get it all out and I know there are a few cat lovers on here who will understand.

loumac - we have some right laughs on OS but also share the tears. You are entitled to feel down and upset. I've always had cats (or they've had me) and five years ago I got two new kittens, brother and sister. I called them Jingle and Tinsel (you'd never guess they were my Christmas treat would ya?):rotfl: When he was 18 months old Tinsel came and sat on my feet as I was stiring the Sunday gravy, peed all over me and died:eek: It was so unexpected and a sad day for me. His sister Jingle is still going strong, currently pestering a vole hiding under the sofa, which I must remember to rescue before bedtime. LOL My oldest cat, Mitzie is well over 20 and each winter I expect to be her last but she still plods/limps along. All my cats over the years have special places in my memories (and garden LOL) Give you self time to grieve and then if you're anything like me you won't be ablt to resist getting another one.

Thank you.
MATH can I just ask if your other cat was ok when you got the kittens? I have a second cat, she's five and she hasn't moved from the spot where he died all day. I am a little worried about her as she's very fragile in health having had a poor start to life and although I can't consider another cat right now I would worry most about how she would react to them.Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! I've always had a minimum of two cats and I got my two kittens in addition to the two cats I already had. Sadly Boris passed away soon after the kittens arrived, it was in anticipation og his passing that I was 'tempted' to get the kittens. Mitzie is a very placid cat and accepts everything put before her. LOL
If you are out during the day I would leave a jumper or something you have worn near the spot she likes so she has comfort and can smell you. Lots of extra cuddles also while she adjusts (it doesn't take very long). Remeber they take a lot of emotional cues from you so lots of nice comforting chat with her will also help (non cat lovers stop laughing).
IME it is much easier to introduce another cat to a lone girly than it is with a boy. When the time is right a girl or boy younger than your current female should be fine, if it's a boy I would go MUCH younger. HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
