I also go to an Halal butcher for meat as the quality is great and it is really cheap and a fruit and veg shop in a mainly Pakistani/Bangladeshi area that has really fresh stuff at cheap prices.

Not worried about animal welfare then?

As long as it's cheap eh???

Tucked into my Lidl mini panettone yesterday, and... it didn't have as much fruit and peel as before???

I hope this is a one-off batch and Lidl haven't gone all commercial on us, I would be bereft if the lovely panettone changed for some reason. :(

I do believe changes are afoot in both Lidl and Aldi. This year's stollen is 25% smaller than last year but price unchanged. Super-6 at Aldi is 89p. So prices rising everywhere but still better value than other SMs.

The one I had a few weeks ago was alright :(. Still it is loads better than the over-sweet stuff you get from italian coffee shops everywhere. Yes, and better value too!

Then just recently carb-loving OH had started getting persistent digestive issues which stopped immediately upon giving up wheat and switching to gluten free bread.
FWIW Aldi do now stock a gluten free bread:

Don't fall into the trap of buying Polish stuff because no matter what it looks like it doesn't always taste as nice as what our palates know.

I would disagree totally with this :) Dont remember ever being disappointed in any of their Polish products from Lidl, and it wont do you any harm to try something out of the ordinary once in a while.

Im not sure the super six will stay 89p, hopefully not anyway. I bought 3 peppers from aldi yesterday, not on the super six were 89p, even my local cheap fruit stall sells them for 1.50.

I like some of the polish stuff as well. In fact I buy from local Polish shops as well, the bread is fantastic.

Some of the Polish stuff is pasteurised ie zapped briefly by ultra-high heat to kill bacteria, rather than being stuffed with additives and that seems healthier to me.

I like kefir from my local Polish shop. It arrives by refrigerated truck from Poland every Thursday morning and it's usually all gone by the weekend :(

Stompa thanks for the heads-up.. there's an Aldi in next town will have to go explore again. I use Lidl as 10 min walk from our house.

Do they still do that kartoffelsalat in Lidl? Only it sounds lovely!
