Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I agree with all you said, I used to use lidl as my regular shop and not once were the staff pleasant, I moved and Aldi is less than a mile from me, the staff are pleasant, even when obviously busy, it`s a pleasure to go there.
It's the same here too.The LIDL staff are huffy and surly, but the Ald1 ones always have a chat and a laugh, and are really helpful:D:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

It's the total opposite here in North London, the Lidl is always clean and well laid out, the staff, if you can find them, always helpful. The Aldi further down the road is filthy and smelly, goods scattered all over the place like they don't care and the staff always too much in a hurry to notice anything you're saying. Horrible. It's now been well over a year since I set foot there.0

Bought some noodles tonight, 18p a packet, few different flavours, cheaper than the koka ones at 25p Ive been buying lately. Also bought some everyday essentials savoury rice, 24p a packet.
I actually went in to buy some blueberries, but they have gone up from 1.29 to 1.59, am happy to buy them at 1.29 but not at 1.59, will wait till they are hopefully on the super six at some point.0 -
I've got an Aldi in my town but no Lidl so only go in one when I am in an area where there is one and TBH the Lidl have been fine and staff helpful. I think as someone said earlier it's often dependant on individual store managers as to store standards.0

Bought the large fresh family sized lasagne with last week's coupon - not usually a fan of shop bought lasagnes, but this was extremely tasty. It did not contain any potato and did not have that "shop bought" taste!
Sorry - forgot to say that the coupon was for Aldi0 -

Thanks for the tip about the ginger wine, I enjoyed it last year. I'm another fan of the Lacura products. Serum sold out here when it first started winning prizes but they seem to have stock control sorted now. I think the marzipan bars are dark chocolate (but have been avoiding them as I have a habit of eating Christmas goodies too early:o). I do have 70% Moser Roth every week though, small bars easier to ration myself;).I've got an Aldi in my town but no Lidl so only go in one when I am in an area where there is one and TBH the Lidl have been fine and staff helpful. I agree. I overheard a manager in my Aldi telling an employee that he was to make sure that he picked up any stray bits of card/paper off the floor. His reasoning (which I totally supported) was that if customers saw litter about they'd start throwing stuff down too. It's a bit like the 'if you put people in pig sties they'll behave like pigs' principle. I had to restrain myself from going up and congratulating him.:)0 -

A lot of recent posts seem to assume everyone knows what store they where in ::)0 -
Well, I'm inspired to do an Aldi run. We like Sainsbury's and I don't see us swopping wholesale, but I have seen and read enough to make me dip my toes in the Aldi water.
I'm especially attracted to
Booze
Wine has become very expensive at Sainsbury's, we actually stopped buying it, and currently stock up once a month at Asda, but I reckon the Aldi range under £5 can give it a run.
Ginger wine, 'baily's and there 4.8% stubbies look decent value
Tom Puree
Olive oil
FR chicken
Bleach
cured meats
Low fat mayo
Porridge oats
etc
all look interesting
Anyone tried their frozen Homefries ?..We currently have aunt Bessies at £2.20/ bag, noted Aldie's are £1
Any rec's ??Over £2K made from bank switches and P2P incentives since 2016 :beer:0 -
Don't be afraid to try brands you do not know.
Some you win, some you loose. But on the whole you will be impressed.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I have the Aldi frozen chips, think they are in a green pack and are similar to Homefries. Wont swear that they are an exact match but tasty enough.0
