Strangely I did notice someone with a can of cannellini beans in their basket last week!

I know they don't do mixed pulses tins. Sainsburys do these at 4 or 5 for £2 in the winter time so I stock up on these. These are £1 a tin.

I haven't noticed the ham cuttings in my Aldi down Essex way, that's a shame. I'll have to look closer in case I've missed the packs.

aldi have the kg of chicken portions back for £1.69 but where have the bourban biscuits gone ?? havent had them in our aldi for weeks ?

Yeah, I've been to 3 different Aldi's in the past month or so and the Bourbon biscuits seem to have disappeared.

Had to get some from Lidl. They're nice and still a bargain but I prefer the Aldi ones. Hope they come back in stock soon.

I buy their 'standard' frozen chips for £1 a bag, and my son said how nice the chips were that evening! Very impressed with those, so no more McCains for me!

    Totally agree!

Can't believe I wasted so much money on McCain's chips for so long. Finally took a chance on Aldi's standard £1 chips and their french fries and loved them both. Both are a bargain and totally yummy.

The £1 standard chips were the best frozen chips I've ever had and it's a huge bag (1.5k I think) for just a quid. I absolutely love 'em!
  • Well, our 1st visit to Aldi last night.

I was sure my wife was going to have a negative reaction, but I was oddly looking forward all day to see what it was like !

Anyway, first impressions. being used to the long wide ailes and slick design of our local Sainsbury, I felt like I was stepping back into the mid 70's...Fine Fare, anyone remember them ? My nan used to drag me round there once a week when she looked after me in school holidays. Not an unpleasant memory jolt, quite comforting in a way...Anyway

Immediately we were impressed by some prices jumping out at us, and the wife was VERY impressed with the Choccy range( and later more so by the taste :o ).
Runny Honey, FR Chicken, Tom Puree etc. Good prices on Smoke cheese and hams. I nabbed a heated car seat pad which I have used this morning, very pleased !

    Brasserie beers tested..pass
We have no need to go to JS now this weekend, and will basically be fine til the following weekend, having spent a fraction of what we spend at JS.

    Negatives
I wouldn't want to go when it was busy, not a lot of room and the somewhat rushed check out system lacks finess and 1 item got scanned twice in the rush I noticed later . I think it would be hard on your own to manage a big shop, definitely easier with 2 to pack afterwards.

Looking forward to trying some of the frozen stuff ( Chips, sweet corn ) and think Aldi will be an integral part of our future shopping..:T
Over £2K made from bank switches and P2P incentives since 2016
  • The checkout is awful IMO. Always check your receipt before you leave, it isn't unheard of for 2 bar codes to run together and you to be charged for a lawnmower when all you bought was a bar of chocolate and litre of apple juice!

Wondering if anyone has tried the fresh fish (e.g. salmon) at Aldo/Lido and what it is like? Taste-wise and quality?
Also not sure what the usual price is for say 2 salmon fillets? Compares to other SM?
Normally go to A or L for specific things I've tested and liked but not tried the fish stuffs yet.

    Opinions appreciated.

    Welcome, Aldi /Lidl converts!

Do check your Aldi receipt, yes, but in my experience the staff are very quick to put things right.
What has happened with me is that a reduced article went through at full price. So keep an eye on those, put them at the front of your shopping perhaps.
    Latest buys:
    Christmassy:
Some gorgeous all-chocolate biscuits in a blue box - very similar to Victoria - I think I paid £2.99. With the Christmas 'stuff'.

The Belgian biccys are back again for £3.99 for 380g.

The Amaretto is available all year round in my Aldi and is lovely.
    Everyday:

It's British Sausage Week, so the more expensive Ashfield Farm sausages are down to 99p for a 500g pack. (from £1.49) I usually get these at full price, as they are good.

The German sliced salami and peppered salami - 99p a pack - is wonderful quality. Kabanos 5 pack a great lower priced alternative to Pepperami. I tried the salted butter for the first time the other week - five stars.

I've never seen ham trim either. Must be regional, sadly.
