Went to Aldi (which i should have done in the first place) and got everything. Just as I was leaving a woman going in asked if they had any carrots, she had been to two other supermarkets, neither of which had any
There were huge trays of all key veg (parsnips, carrots, spuds, sprouts) sat outside the entrance doors, all reduced to 10p a bag, at my local Asda a couple of hours ago. But couldn't find a single sausage roll, fresh or frozen, for love nor money lol
Oh, but I did manage to bag a fresh turkey reduced to £6 from £24 so I'll carve off the crown for myself and feed the rest to my pooch. Happy days! :beer:0 -

Was in Asda this morning, but everything was still full price. Wanted to brave it out and wait for the reduced turkeys, but OH was worried we would end up with beans on toast and bought one :rotfl:You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

I already have a turkey crown I bought in Aldi last weekend. I was only in there buying booze lol but couldn't resist one or two bargains along the way. Shame all my freezers are currently rammed full otherwise I could have taken advantage of all the cheap veg to make soup lol0 -

That is one lucky pooch - he is getting the better end of the deal if you ask me.
We are not really into Christmas, although the time off is appreciated, but do enjoy looking for bargains on Christmas Eve on things you don't get the rest of the year (and it certainly helps that if you don't get lucky you won't be letting anybody down tomorrow)
Did manage to get a Turkey half price in Aldi which we will have tomorrow. Apart from that slightly odd year - normally the local places have enough bread / cakes etc to feed an army but nothing this time. Few bits of veg were around but as the prices were so cheap to begin with we had already got what was needed.0 -

He's a raw fed pooch and often eats better than me
In fact I recently bought a pack of lamb shanks for him and they look good enough to eat myself, at a fraction of the cost I'd pay in a supermarket :rotfl:0 -
I'm usually a big fan of Aldi but one or two items purchased before Christmas were a big let-down.
Bag of sprouts - wet, with black, slimy tops.
Bag of Cox's apples - looked as though someone had played football with them.
Pack of smoked mackerel - far too salty to eat so went in bin.0 -
Just before Xmas I got a box of Noccolia, they looked similar to Ferrero Rocher and I do like a nice Ferreo so picked them up. £1.99 for a box of 16. Well I gorged the whole lot! I sent hubby up on 23rd to get more as its part of their Xmas range so likely to be gone soon. To me I actually prefer them to the usual Ferrero Rocher, I don't find them as sickly as FR. After work on Tuesday I'm going to pop in again and get some more.:money::rotfl::T0

Thank you Aldi- the half a cow - otherwise known as your 'Roasting Joint of Beef - for £11.69, fed 14 hungry people yesterday and will feed the same amount tomorrow for a cold buffet lunch. joined by the Gammon which was an unbelievable size for £9 odd. I have cooked that today and OH has just cut some for his supper. tasted it and its really lovely!0

I've had 2 bags of sprouts from Aldi and not had any problems with them. In fact, every sprout was cooked, didn't have to throw any away at all. Kept both in the fridge. Same with the parsnips which i bought 2 weeks before Xmas, still fresh on Xmas day. I have leeks in the fridge which i bought 3 weeks ago too, they'll be going in some soup tomorrow with some potatoes. The 5 bird roast is relaxing in the fridge from yesterday but will be gone tomorrow, same for the gammon (cooked in cider in the slow cooker on Xmas Eve)
The Noccolia are all but gone, which is a shameI'm also just sipping the Marlborough Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, wish i'd bought more of that for sure !
The biggest hit for me from the Xmas stuff was the Belgian Chocolate Praline Yule Log, worth every penny.
Thank you to Aldi for a fabulous Xmas (again)0
