Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Typo for £1.38 but does not really invalidate the comment.
Thanks for pointing it out though.0 -

A new Lidl has just opened up a short detour from my cycling route home from work.
We gave it a go, but of the new products we tried, we didn't like all of them. We tried the thin french fries. They say that they can be oven cooked, but they don't come out nearly so nice as any of: Aldi thin french fries, Tesco's thin french fries, or McCains. I used to eat the Lidl thin fries a long time ago, but used to deep fry them and they were awesome. Nowdays I can't be bothered deep frying, so need chips that come out nice when oven cooked.
I found the Lidl bourbon biscuits a bit dry.
For Aldi, they are selling 'specially selected' vegetable gyoza. These are extremely different from the gyoza that I used to eat in Japan. Near unrecognizable really. But, they are reasonably nice tasting and nicely crunchy once baked according to the instructions. I like the sauce too. Though, it's not authentic as far as I remember.
The Aldi dark cooking chocolate seems quite nice. It does melt in the mouth. Not immediately, but it seems nicely smooth. It is dark, so has the typical bitter aftertaste, but IMHO it's a cheap and cheerful eating chocolate. Not for the chocolate aficionados who want their 97.5% dark chocolate, but I'm enjoying it.
I think that Lidl had Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages for £1.25 a packet. If they are the standard sized packets of six, that would be a bargain.
Lidl's coconut ice was cheap and cheerful. Not the nicest texture for coconut ice, but it was nice, IMHO.
EDIT: The Vegetable Gyoza is 'Thai style'. That's probably why it doesn't look like the Gyoza I ate in Japan.0 -

Yes, packs of six.... but hold your horses - they're often to be found cheaper. I buy them there when they're about £1 (can't remember if it's 90p or 99p). I check the freezer when I go in and when they're cheaper I buy two packs, thus stocking up.0 -

They sell them for £1? Lidl?
Many years ago Linda McCartney would have offers where you could buy them for £1 and we bought loads. We haven't seen that sort of bargain for years. Iceland used to sell them for £1, but that was packs of 5. Recently we've been paying £1.50 a packet.
Thanks very much for the information.0 -

Yes, definitely. £1 and at Lidl. I've bought four packs in the last six months at that price.
But .... bit of a "bonus buy" .... I went into Waitrose for the first time ever a few months ago as they had a special £1 for the red onion & rosemary flavoured ones - and they are truly amazingly flavoured! So now I am a bit sad that Lidl don't have that flavour
But ...definitely 6-packs of the Linda's, definitely Lidl, definitely a few times in recent months.0 -

I like the Lidl "Harvest Basket" Chunky Chips. A bit more expensive than the thin ones , but worth it.0 -
In LIDL just now...Irish Country Cream (Dundalgan) down to £3.75 from £3.99.0

I think the Lidl Premium mince pies this year (black box, Which? endorsed) are excellent, though.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
