I've given up on Aldi fruit and veg, after yet another pallet of tomatoes that is going mouldy within one day, even though I inspected it closely, having been caught out before. Maybe just my local store. It is quite new. Fruit, meanwhile, is more miss than hit - often pretty flavourless.

I haven't given up on it yet but I don't think the fruit a veg last as long as they should from either store. I buy the 'to ripen' peaches and nectarines and they go off in a few days.

I did my shopping on Wednesday and had thrown three out by Saturday as they were going mouldy. They were from Lidl.

Our Aldi dont mind you taking baskets through now. i noticed they are now tagged up to set the alarms off if you walk out with one.

I hate people bagging at the till, like you say newbies to Aldi dont get the system. It was never designed like this! I play beat the cashier for a bit of fun. Only time I pack at the till is with a small basket of items.

Whenever i go other supermarkets now I want to scan myself as they are so slow!

    Talking of tagging.

Has everybody notice that nearly all of the fresh meat now has built in security tags.

So if you try to walk out the door without going through the tills, the alarms go off.

Look on the front of the pack and you will notice a yellow notice on the right of the label..

Lidl Valley Spire MATURE cheese down from 1.55 to 1.19 per 350g.
Mushrooms 59p for 250g, normally 89p. though half price weekend offers have been 42p.

Strangely, the freezer price label was 89p..

Aldi really need to sort out their price displays!

I don't know whether they are new or not (though I suspect they are) but Aldi's 'Original Oat Biscuits' from their 'Specially Selected' range are really very special - and very well priced for a premium quality product.

And while I'm dishing out the praise, Aldi's specially thick double cream is head and shoulders the best I've bought that was not from a farm or specialist supplier.

You can tell I'm on a healthy eating kick, can't you?

Despite its occasional faults (and it does have them) Aldi continues to offer excellent value for money and its 'specially selected' products seem to be of real gourmet quality, not just 'average stuff in fancy packaging' which is too often true of the rest of the supermarkets.

    Well done, Aldi!

Rather pay more for flavour and lasting longer.

I had noticed those but I thought they were intended to fool customers into thinking the were 'Yellow Sticker' items. Me? cynical???? Surely not;).

This was part of the summer sale. The choc-ices are yucky, btw.

They've had that for quite a while now. Just checked some meat I've got in the freezer bought about six months ago and that's tagged too. No different to any other supermarket then. Unfortunately shoplifters don't discriminate where they steal from.

Although discerning shoplifters will have discovered by now that Aldi meat's rather better than Tesco's. :)
