  • I use a basket in a trolley so I can get an idea how heavy it wil be to either carry or pull home it also gives me the advantage I can pack at my own pace after I've paid

If you have a basket , you HAVE to pack at the till.

I've noticed recently several customers in my store successfully taking baskets through the till without the staff complaining, so perhaps it's permitted now? You can then just chuck everything back in the basket, and pack into bags in the packing area.

I never put more in the basket than will fit into my shopping bag, what fits onto the end of the till does not get any consideration.

It has nothing to do with having change for the trolly, I much prefer to use the basket.

I go slow to make my point which I also do verbally once I am finished loading my bag.

What point is that then ? I don't understand, if you don't like the way the checkout works, why go there ?

Personally I have got packing (from trolley) at the till down to a fine art but if Aldi's policy of rapid checkouts bothers you so much torbrex then go to Waitrose or Sainsbury's. It's never busy there and they have separate checkouts for trolleys and basket cases.

I'm sure you must be very popular with people in the queue behind you. As others have said, if you don't like the system (which is designed to keep prices low) why shop there?

And if you were in front of me in the queue I'd most definitely express my annoyance to you verbally too!
  • Our Aldi dont mind you taking baskets through now. i noticed they are now tagged up to set the alarms off if you walk out with one.

I hate people bagging at the till, like you say newbies to Aldi dont get the system. It was never designed like this! I play beat the cashier for a bit of fun. Only time I pack at the till is with a small basket of items.

Whenever i go other supermarkets now I want to scan myself as they are so slow!
  • We just had the lamb shanks that were on offer at Lidl last weekend. I usually cook from scratch but I was glad I bought them as ill with summer flu and glad I didn't have to cook :(...tasted lovely :)

  • Aldi mussels in garlic butter. Had a packet currently on offer for £1.49p, half the price of Morrisons (although I think Morrisons is slightly more in weight). Really nice tasting, although be careful there were a couple of little broken shells in the sauce.

  • I've given up on Aldi fruit and veg, after yet another pallet of tomatoes that is going mouldy within one day, even though I inspected it closely, having been caught out before. Maybe just my local store. It is quite new. Fruit, meanwhile, is more miss than hit - often pretty flavourless.
