Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

The rump steaks in Aldi looked nice the other day.
Only 50p off, but £2.99 for a 10oz(e) steak isn't too bad. I'll get some at the weekend and try.

You're comparing apples with oranges. A slow cocker uses 100-200 Watt whereas a hob uses 1000 - 2000W. "An hour's worth of energy" is not the same for both devices.0 -

They are some of the nicest steaks I've ever had from a supermarket. I always buy a couple when I go in. I cook mine medium rare and they literally melt in the mouth
Thanks for posting this. I wasn't due to go shopping this week but I'll be passing nearby an Aldi later today so will pop in for a couple0 -

I use gas not electric, as does, I think, the OP. So yes, considerable difference in cost. He was also talking about using a multi cooker not a slow cooker which I should imagine has a higher output but can't be certain without checking.0 -
Hi All,
In my local Aldi they have got Crofton Electric Multi-cookers for £34.99. I already have a rice cooker and a slow cooker but (from a safety aspect) I think it could be useful to have an electric gadget that cooks rice and steams vegetables and then automatically switches off and keeps the stuff warm. Unlike the gas which has to be watched carefully.
Anyone used these type of things before? Would appreciate any observations from users. Is it true, for example, that the rice takes over an hour to cook? How long does it take to steam vegetables. I have read that the slow cooker takes ages to cook. I am not expecting miracles but is it worth buying for just cooking rice and steaming vegetables?

DD1 and myself were stuck for a snack lunch (and sandwiches coming out of our ears these days) so we tried the wee pizza and new Margherita pastry thing from the Lidl bakery. Both were really nice and a great price for under £1 (need to check the receipt if anyone needs to know!).
I also am so happy Lidl is selling the giant Ritter Sport Chocolates as they make great gifts. Good they don't sell the normal 100g size as I'd eat far too much of them, lol.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
Margherita pastry - is that the swirly bread thing with tomato and mozzarella through it. Looks like a savoury chelsea bun? I agree, yummy. Never tried the pizza but I might now!
I like their little baguettes at 19p as well.
I also bought pommes noisettes recently but it seems they were seasonal. They were good but I don't see them in store any more.0 -
I've been working my way through the Lidl Baresa Antipasti (99p each). I have to say that the varieties I've tried so far have been excellent.
For anyone who's never had Antipasti, it is vegetables preserved in oil.
Varieties: Artichoke, Peppers, Courgettes, Mushrooms in herbs and tomato oil, Sundried Tomatoes0 -
Today I must go on about Aldi's fruit - it's been superb in the new store. Fresh French apricots for 60 p, ripe and juicy, flat peaches 7 in the pack for a similar price.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0
