That really takes the biscuit ! :D

  • We have recently abandoned Lidl in favour of Aldi since a new store opened in our town.

My favourites from Aldi are :-

Cherry tomato and chilli pasta sauce (premium range)
Cheesey pasta equivalent (yummy, I make it without butter but a handful of grated cheese thrown in too!).
Penne pasta - bargain at 29p
Fruit (better now they have installed fridges, wasn't good at first as it was in the sun)
Flour - self raising and strong white bread flour
Crusty bread mix (own brand). Half a pack makes small loaf in machine.
Cheese - slices of gouda and maasdam, grated light cheese, grated mature cheddar, grated mozzarella.
Occasional baking items - like chocolate fudge icing :)
Macaroni cheese pies (the chilled ones). Taste like Bell's but cheaper.
Yoghurt - the big tubs of strawberry yoghurt. Also the chocolate mousse (really cheap and vegetarian), individual cranberry and raspberry yoghurts. Probiotic drinks seem to have disappeared this week (well we've been away so might have been over last few weeks, or just out of stock yesterday).
Chocolate - moser roth mint choc bars or the raspberry panacotta one is yummy. Also pack of hazelnut crisp bars that seem to have disappeared lately.
Herbal essences style shampoo conditioner. Seems ok, and cheaper!

They'll be back - made to the same recipe by a different supplier. United Biscuits (McVities) have been making them until recently but have decided to stop because it was hitting their own sales.

    Their loss!

    Lidl now taking credit cards.
So they are - good news. And I imagine Aldi will have to follow if they're not to lose sales.

Well if they are, what was I looking at the other day. ;)

300gram packets but unlike other biscuits makers, price has gone down.

If a member of staff told you that, don't always believe them.

I was told the other day that the 99p premium jams were being discontinued, which I knew was a lie as Aldi had just changed the labeling to a posher type. You don't do that and then ditch the line.

Walked in there in the same week and found the shelf's filled with the type I wanted, which I was told was being discontinued.

Thanks for posting up the pics, I went into one of the two Aldi where I live last Monday and the store was terrible. Freezers empty like the one posted, loads of super 6 sold out and loads of cardboard scattered everywhere. I've been in the store before and whilst never quite as nice as the one nearest to me I've not seen it in that state before. If it's in the same state next time in go I I'll complain to HQ. There are no new stores opened so they can't use that as an excuse.

My friend bought some roses from Aldi for my mum on Sept 9th and mum binned them 11 days later. Only because my parents left that day to drive to Machester to get a 4am flight the following morning! They were cream and once the roses opened, they had a splash of pink in the middle.

I think from the posts of the poor stock management, scruffy stores etc IMO Aldi are starting to become a victim of their own success. Esp now Lidl are now accepting credit cards.

There is a town about 17 miles from here where both A and L are next to each other (with a road between them) and if it's the week before payday and customers only have enough money in their current account for direct debits, they will go to L.

On the few times I have been there, I park in one car park and walk to the other. As the roundabout is a pain.

Aldi is going through a programme of upgrades at the moment (introducing chilled storage for fruit & veg).

Because the stores are relatively small, this creates pressure on space and on staff to keep the store running properly.

My local store had 2 weeks of disruption, and now it's back to normal.

I bought those for my DD and she texted me after two weeks to say they were just going in the bin! I love Aldi's flowers. They have a great selection and I can afford to be more generous as they're an excellent price. I've also got some ornamental trees (bay, olive, rosemary and lavender) that I got there and I'm delighted with them at about £15 each. I've given them as presents too.

I bought some of Aldi's cheap plain chocolate to melt as a cake topping....big mistake! It went like sticky blob and tasted awful. Tasted fine before melting.
Back to the higher price one...you live and learn!
