Now you've got me worried  I'm planning my first trip to Aldi tomorrow, how does it work then??!
How was the trip to Aldi ?
Did you enjoy it ?
Would you go back ?Just a further warning about Aldi in particular (not a problem we've had at Lidl) - the scanning is so fast that there are frequent errors. It's been mentioned in this thread before, I think.
Its human error, some of the veg Id have to constantly check the list, others id remember.0 -
We might try the Aldi 4 bird roast, if we can get one (heard that they are sold out) - does anyone know if they are still available? We go to the Aldi in Bexhill.
Is the Lidl version any good? I think it's a 3 bird roast...0 -
Oh - should just mention the cripbreads in Aldi, the sesame ones are delicious and only 59p. The Ryvita equivalent were about £1 then rapidly went up to £1.60ish, which is a ridiculous price...0

What I don't understand with baskets at Aldi (as of course baskets in most stores is a recent thing), is why they don't let you just put the basket on the conveyor belt, and then empty your basket into another basket as they scan. You could then take the basket away to pack, the same as you would a trolley. Instead you unpack on the conveyor belt, then have to push past everybody to get to the end of the extra long conveyor belt to put it on the marked spot on the floor. When you go through the till you then have to pack fast or keep everybody waiting. So often I see people unprepared, only realising they have to pay for bags after they've paid and the transaction is complete...
Personally I have their 90p big reusable bags, a pair is normally enough for a fairly full trolley.0 -
Good from Aldi - in fact VERY GOOD from Aldi - the cartons of 10 Tipples to add to coffee or even pour on ice cream and fruit. Little pots of Irish cream liquor in Brandy & Amaretto flavour. Delicious! Sad to say the box I got isn't going to make it to Christmas!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

thriftymanc wrote: »Ahh, that explains a lot. Back when I'd only just started shopping in Aldi, I went to my local (English) branch, did a huge shop (I'm talking about £150 of stuff!) which took an age to scan though, then when I tried to pay I put my credit card in and the checkout girl said "we don't take credit cards, you'll have to pay with something else". Needless to say I didn't have anything else to pay with so the million people in the queue behind me all looked like they wanted to murder me and I ended up in an argument with the checkout girl as I'd used a credit card in one of their other stores just a week earlier. She swore blind that none of their stores had ever accepted credit cards, started getting really shirty and shouted me down in front of everyone calling me a liar and a timewaster. I was embarrassed enough that I had to leave two trolleys full of things that I couldn't pay for without being yelled at so I didn't shop there again for about a year! What I didn't realise at the time is that the branch I'd used a credit card in was a branch in Wales where I'd been visiting a friend. Wish I knew that at the time so I could have backed myself up!
Oh no, that sounds awful, very embarrassing. You would think the staff would realise that it wasn't nationwide, and only in England, particularly if the store is close to Wales or Scotland.
I have found out now that there is another Aldi a tiny bit closer to me. We have 2 lidls (2 towns right next to each other) but no Aldi. Hope Aldi opens a store here too.0
