Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I don't disagree but I do think that Aldi has a wider range than Lidl. I began to get suspicious because my Aldi shop seemed to have risen in price over the last few months. Then I realised that the number of items I'm having to top up in Sainsbury's has correspondingly shrunk.
I still go to Lidl occasionally and top up on the luxury muesli that is DH's favourite and dishwasher stuff as I'm impressed with the packaging of the salt.
Aldi may have wider range but a lot harder to navigate when it is crowded. I like Lidl much better.
Loose Bananas sold by weight.
Cashew, almond nuts, and some other varieties displayed in hugh sacks sold by weight.
Cut hams are solid not much water in it.
My children swear by the Blue Bag Oat Crunch with raisin, almond & honey, the same one your OH likes I suspect. There are in crumbling chucks with loads of fruits and not too sweet, unlike SMs one often in grains form and powdery that looks like feeds for chicken.
Chicken pie and Beef pies good, plenty of meat in it and right amount of gravy.
Cheese and Onion pie is also good.
Hummus and dips are better than those in Sainsbury and M&S - right consistency, not too runny, and very tasty.
Spring onion, cucumber, and celery cheaper than Aldi and SMs.
Vine tomatoes often on weekend half price deal
Aldi is predictable, products hardly change unless they add new range. Whereas in Lidl on rota basis they stock cultural produces (in addition to the regular range) for a one off period until sold out.
It can be Chinese, German, Polish, Spanish or Mexican etc.
Currently it is everything spanish, spanish produces that you wont see as regular items. I bought Chorizo there last week and they were very very good, spicy and tangy.0 -

Do the people in my area love cashews so much they're all gone by late afternoon or is it aldi that enjoy making me look stupid by not supplying them?
Yes, they're all in seperate boxes in my local Aldi. I picked up a pack of cashews and pistachios. Didn't see any walnuts, mind.0 -

Just for general info, do people know that Sainsbury is part-owned by Qatar Holdings, the same company that bought over Harrods last year?
Believing supporting Sainsbury means supporting British ownership vs German ownership is no longer correct.0 -

I can't think why anyone might have supported Sainsbury's - it would have been an act of loyalty unreciprocated by the store, which seems to specialise in rivaling Waitrose pricing without offering the quality or variety.
Then again, if we're are talking about who owns what and reasons other than price and quality to shop somewhere, anyone who thinks that Aldi or Lidl are Davids to British supermarkets' Goliaths needs to check the facts. Both these German companies are gigantic organisations. They are not white knights taking pity on exploited British shoppers - they are every bit as ruthless as all the rest.0 -

Is that sweet or dry?0
