Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Aldi pork shoulder joint 1kg @ less than £3 - forget actual price now, maybe £2.89. Roasted up beautifully with great crackling and fed 4 adults plus 2 young children with generous portions. Very tasty bargain0

Some really good Spanish wines in Lidl this week. I bought a couple to try over the weekend, going back for some more tomorrow.0

Do the people in my area love cashews so much they're all gone by late afternoon or is it aldi that enjoy making me look stupid by not supplying them?
A harsh wake-up call, isn't it? You're not so special, you're just the same as everyone else!
This is a problem with the shops - where multiple varieties share the one pack.
As to the nuts, that is an expected result - walnuts are not wolfed down like pistachios or cashews; pistachios are widely available anywhere at a reasonable price; cashews are expensive but go down easily (or abused and made into dairy alternatives - ridiculous waste). I would certainly expect the cashews to go first - and if, in addition, they are not restocked until all are sold...
At least the washing tablets are now separated and restocked individually. You will have to hope the nuts follow suit.0 -
Not too sure if I have mentioned this before. My tomatoes which I bought in Aldi two days before when I opened the packet, within 30 seconds, they turned black and furry.
You must seen on the TV, food going mouldy filmed on a high speed camera over 2-3 weeks. It was like that but in real life speed! It made me lose my appetite.
That's another f&v I refuse to buy in Aldi! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Aldi and Lidl need a separate customer service desk. Does not need to be manned all the time. As if you need to do a refund either because of a product is faulty or been overcharged, then you are causing the queues at the tills to be longer! You feel embarrassed and seeing people's eyes in the queue starring at you and tutting at you.
Also some people like myself are put off with doing refunds with mouldy food as if Aldi and Lidl did have a CSD, they would be able to see the items returned the most and then can implement a plan to reduce the mouldy food - change supplier, reduce fridge temp etc.
Instead, I am just not buying the foods which I have mouldy issues with. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The tomatoes I bought a week ago from Aldi are still absolutely fine. I remove all packaging from any fruit and veg before putting them in the fridge and never have any problems with stuff going off.0 -

On the plus side, it would (a) serve customers better (less chance of popular variants being perpetually sold out, and (b) less chance of stock being damaged as customers rifle through to find the variant they want.
e.g Lidl brie stocks often end up quite dishevelled as people go for the full-fat one, as opposed to the slightly anaemic low-fat variety.
I fear for the safety of customers next to the 1.5L no added sugar dilutables. Invariably all the load-bearing apple & blackcurrant is gone, leaving just a flimsy scaffold of orange. Someone is bound to get squashed sooner or later.0 -
What the??!!
Why has this thread been moved to the Gone Off board???

I don't understand the multi flavours in one box either. All of the flavours have the same barcode so there is no telling from the sales database which flavour sells the best etc.
It's the same with the bottles of flavoured water and mixers in Aldi. I wanted the low calorie tonic water and there were 30 bottles of the others in the range on the board above and there was no way I was able to lift that pallet to grab the bottles I wanted.
The staff should make sure that all the varieties are accessible or Aldi need to put shelves and pack each variety into a separate case. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
