Same at most stores now, though particularly at Aldi, who have worked harder than Lidl to court the more affluent middle classes (so far).

People who've made it don't give a damn about shopping at Aldi and Lidl. The people who really need to shop there often won't because it's seen as affecting status. Odd that.

I saw someone in Aldi the other week very carefully packing his shopping into a Harrods bag.

Every time I go to Aldi/Lidl, I'm disappointed.
People go on about how they do their "full shop" there, I honestly can't see how. Plus, their branded lines can be found far cheaper elsewhere (for example, Irn Bru £1.19 Aldi vs. 99p Home Bargains).
Even their beer, which I'd expect to be world class (German) leaves a lot to be desired.
I just can't see what drives people there.

I do a full shop in Aldi every week. They have a big selection of beers, wines and soft drinks.

I can't quite get my head round why you would expect Aldi beer to be "World Class" ?

What drives me is the £40 per week i save against doing my main shop at Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys. No brainer really.

Yes, but if he was as stupidly Hyacinth as this suggests, I bet it was a very scuffed bag. Which implies heavy re-use and undermines the object of the exercise.

I popped into Aldi last night on the way back from a few last-minute High Street chores as I hadn't had a chance to look for their liqueurs on offer from Thursday - surprise, surprise, they had gone. Not because they were under-stocked, it's because people recognise a good deal when they see it.

What I really love about Aldi in particular is the sunny disposition of their staff. They all seem genuinely happy to be there and will go out of their way to help, which I find refreshing for the younger generation. Not like the rude and grumpy elders with a sense of entitlement at my local Tesco (not that I have visited that branch for years, now).

Aldi mixed nuts - rather stale, will avoid in future.
I think many Aldi customers, especially those who drive a distance, never bother to complain back to Aldi about 'slightly off' items so Aldi does not get the feedback. And people will just not buy the item again.

My Waitrose store is very local and they always get to know if I'm not satisfied - and with bad fruit there it's money back AND replacement fruit at Waitrose.

Has anyone managed to get plain cashew nuts at aldi recently? They have boxes with "pistachios, walnuts and cashews" on them and the last few times I've rooted through the box to only find packets of walnuts and packets of pistachios.

Do the people in my area love cashews so much they're all gone by late afternoon or is it aldi that enjoy making me look stupid by not supplying them? :o

I saw last week a man buy his food, placing it onto one of Lidls empty boxes and then turn it upside down into what I am pretty sure was a sawn off black bin-bag! I just hope it got home in one piece and in this heat...as he left he twirled the bag around a few times to form a seal, then slung it over his shoulder and left the store....I gotta give him kudos for his don't-care attitude even if I don't agree with it!

I think generally Aldi is generally good, but its like everywhere elce you have to pick and choose. I think they would be better off expanding the food range instead of having a sale on carmats/loo brushes and workmans boots and trellacing for plants. And that stuff isnt that cheap from what I've seen.
I dont know how anyone could do a full shop at home bargains unless they ate things like supernoodles with Unlce Bens rice and Tinned tuna for meals. It tends to be all tins and packets. Its o.k but they dont sell fruit and veg at all at the ones near me.

Yep its because people root through the box for the cashews.

    .

It is because of their reduced range , and the profits they make from their non-food range , that they are able to sell at the prices they do. Increasing the food range would result in higher costs & prices
