What are people's opinion on the fresh meat at Aldi, noticed their chicken breasts are much cheaper than Asda and Tesco, what's the quality like?

    Hi Barney1979

My stepson is a chef and has only recently discovered Aldi and said their meat is some of the best he has tasted - was waxing lyrical about some steak he had for next to nothing which was much better than what he would have had from Sainsburys and at a third of the price.

Not sure if that helps? I have always gone to Aldi but but most meat at our local butchers as it always seems the best price....

I have had no problem whatsoever using two coupons for two of the same product at my local Aldi. I am a very regular customer though, and mine (Newton Aycliffe) is a lovely, friendly store with marvellous staff.

Our store has a big sign up at each till asking customers to present vouchers before purchasing, and it does say on each £5 voucher and product coupon "Voucher must be presented before purchasing items at the till".

Having said all that, I forgot to do it one time :o (before the signs went up) and the staff were fine about it. We're all human.

My son and his friends have told me that they don't really rate Aldi's cheaper coffee. I drink their decaff and it's lovely. I agree about the carrots. I'd stopped buying Tesco's packaged carrots as they tasted dreadful, but Aldi's are fine.

The usual daft battle this morning trying to persuade them to accept more than one of the 30% off vouchers in one transaction - 2 vouchers produced, 2 products bought.

This argument happens pretty much every time, they're plain wrong, and even the manager won't budge on it.

'Vouchers valid for one product only' is not the same as the 'One voucher per single transaction' that appears on the £5 voucher, but they don't see it that way.

    Anyone else having this problem?

Nope. Checkout today, 3 red onion chutney (HEAVEN!!!!), 3 coupons taken, 2 Foccacias (2 coupons taken) Checkout operator stopped when the price crossed £40, I paid. We kept going with the rest of my shopping for voucher 2.

If they insist, then put a "next customer please" bar between each couponed item so they are on seperate transactions. As they're so time obsessed, they'll see how ridiculous it is. You're giving them 1 voucher per transaction as they want...

Thanks for the tip about the rolled shoulder, I'll give it a try as I love lamb. The FR chicken is great, I bought one today for Sunday (or the whole of next week if you're a mse convert;)).

Like you I do Aldi and JS but the balance between the two is changing weekly. There are some weeks when I don't need to go to JS at all. Today I did almost all my shop in Aldi. only 4 things on JS list: Brasso (hardly a weekly thing), pickled shallots (much sweeter than onions in Aldi), bread (Seed Sensations wholemeal as haven't found a wholemeal to compare), wine (because although many rave I haven't been brave enough to try Aldi yet).

I noticed they had the 'Mediterranean' trees back in Aldi today at £14.99 so same price as past two years. I'd forgotten that as well as my rosemary, bay and lavender I still have an olive that's doing really well. Compare it with this

So would you pay £20 for them to wrap a bit of hessian round the pot!!

I've also been told that you can't use 2 vouchers to buy 2 products so it seems like company policy. Just go back another day to use your second voucher !
It isn't company policy. Company policy is quite the reverse, which they're happy to confirm if you contact them.

The problem is with some 'rogue' stores where the managers seem to feel, for some reason best known to themselves, that you should only be allowed to use one of the 'item' vouchers per transaction.

The really stupid thing is that the checkout operators will allow you to put extra items through, one at a time, with a separate transaction for each, wasting everybody's time in the queue while they do it. That's just plain daft.

I've just discovered there's an Aldi in the town where my new weightlifting club is. Popped in there last night to check it out and came out with a full trolley load costing just £70. Well impressed :T :j

Wish I'd been aware of the vouchers though but have made note that they're available last Thursday of the month as will definitely be going back.

Whoever said they were wary of the wine, try it! I bought a Merlot Cab Sauv for £3.49 and it's way better than my usual wine I pay £5.99 for at the Co-op :T

Skitler - I also bought a one-egg frying pan :rotfl:

ETA: I spotted a mini deep fat fryer for £17.99. Has anyone bought this? Is it any good? I don't deep fry often so just pour oil into a wok when needed but a proper fryer might be a safer option considering how absent minded I can be lol

We bought the deep fat fryer.Bearing in mind we've never used one before, we wanted to use it for japanese style dishes.

Only used it once, but seemed to work really well. However it is very small, so you could do prawns or fish goujons. But it's far too small for a large fillet of fish. For us it what we wanted, and was well worth the money. It doesnt have a alarm on anything so I guess you do have to be cautious. It has a 3 year guarantee too
  • I've swapped from Tesco to Aldi in the past two weeks and can't believe how good it is...

Last night i finished a bottle of Blossom Hill rose and opened a bottle of the aldi version... I couldn't taste the difference..... I'm sure it's the same wine re-bottled for Aldi!
