Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Not much I have disliked in Aldi, don't like their frozen peas...
Unusually for Aldi they do two different types, these:

which a lot of people say are horrible (not tried them myself), and these:

which are fine. Their prices are virtually the same.Stompa0 -
It was the second ones, the four seasons brand, they just had a strange texture (quite hard) Hubby doesn't mind them0

Have to agree about the frozen peas - one of the very few things we won't buy at Aldi.
And also one of the very few things that a brand (Birds Eye) can't be beaten on. But when you look at the sheer professionalism, effort and money that Birds Eye put into getting the peas frozen within 2.5 hours of picking it's no wonder their product is unbeatable.
And I hate brands!0 -
Lidl Sage & Onion stuffing mix was disgusting, had little flavor at all and just was like mush.
I've been checking out food ingredients lately, and it's hard to get some healthy options at Aldi. For example, no reduced sugar jams or rye bread. Peanut butter options limited, etc.0 -
Have now also tried the gold tea bags which are great along with a packet of chocolate buttons for 35p which were lovely.
One thing to note, last Friday we bought 3 packs of fresh chicken drumsticks, they had a 30% off sticker on them so were around the sell by date, now we have bought loads of reduced stiff from other places and usually as long as it is used within a couple of days it is generally always ok, we went to use these on Saturday, the day after purchasing them and they stunk to high heaven! They were that bad we did not even want to let the dog have them so they ended up in the bin.
So lesson for us, if it is reduced use it on the day or freeze it.
Still, everything considered happy and will be shopping there again this week."You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -

Normally make stuffing nowadays, but before interested in cooking I'd often buy packet stuff. I know exactly the taste you mean - all the cheap ones have a strange sort of "teabag" taste to them I found!!! If I did have to buy a pack now, I suppose it would have be Paxo against by better judgement of buy brands.0 -

Hi guys it is my first post in this thread and I would like your help. I have been shopping in Aldi before and I am really happy with most of their products I've tried. As it is a bit of an trip for me to get there, I'd like to know in advance if I could get the stuff I need from there , cheaper than some other shops which are nearer to me. As a student I need to research to stay on budget haha.
Anyways my boyfriend has a birthday coming up and I am being the most super person ever and organising him a surprise party, he has no idea cus I know none of his friends (have been a massive facebook creep with his friends lately hahah).
So... things I need...
champagne or sparkling wine to add to a punch
(frozen or tinned) berries
any other alcoholic beverage (vodka, schnapps..)
crisps (preferrably a huge packet filled with crisps rather than one big filled with mini ones)
cauliflower
carrots
brie
disposable cutlery and plates
napkins
also out of aldi topic but does anyone know where i could get an orange/ginger wig, (not too expensive though), its a banter thingy, cus my boify is ginger.
Aldi does a lovely sparkling french white wine
You'll get berries there, vodka, peach schnapps, crisps, not sure about the brie but I would think so, carrots and cauli yes and also not sure about the cutlery and plates
They also do a Pimms copy called Austins, its very nice.0 -

I always buy my cheese in Aldi because I think it is nicer than other supermarket cheeses. I find the fruit and veg a bit hit and miss but I find the beef and chicken very good. Gold tea bags are lovely and the American peanut butter is fab!
The cleaning stuff and bin bags are great value and (IMO) are just as good as brands.Jane
ENDIS. Employed, no disposable income or savings!0
