I'm with you on this; I hadn't heard of foo-foo until someone at work (a bloke) was telling me about his ex and used that term! I fell about in hysterics and have never been able to take it seriously since. I can't get along with front bottom either though! Not sure what we will go for - willy/winky/pee-pee for a boy is fine but for a girl I guess it may be Mary, or tuppence although I do know of other parents who refer to it as fanjita!

God help any little girl your children meet who's called Mary! I guess it's why Fanny's not such a popular name these days... :D

I'm guessing that's the point of the programme.... ;) It would be a bit of a misnomer otherwise. :D

Wow - you've chatted your way through 35 pages in one week! Sorry haven't had time to read back - it's been an eventful few days in the Nutella household.

Most important thing is our adorable little baby girl is here, safe and well! She was born on Friday 11th May weighing 8lbs 6oz. Already I can't quite remember what life was like without her, and I can't stop staring at her. Definitely worth all the aches and pains and sickness and everything else.

So - I was induced on Wednesday evening. Nothing happened for the first 20 hours or so, then contractions kicked in and they hurt A LOT. After 24 hours I still had strong contractions but nothing else was happening, so they decided to wait for another few hours to check again, by which point I was still in a lot of pain (not convinced the TENS machine or pethidine helped...). Was moved to my own labour room in the early hours of Friday morning, asked for an epidural (which was heaven - I can't recommend it enough!) after gas and air had done nothing useful - by this point the pain was horrific.

Spent the whole day on Friday hoping that something might happen - was on a drip to speed up and strengthen contractions (which thankfully I couldn't feel thanks to the epidural). But by 6pm on Friday evening - 48 hours after I was initially induced - I was only 6 cm dillated and although the baby was doing well, the doctors decided that enough was enough and they would do a c-section.

So - that's what I had, and although a c-section was never in my birth plan (I wanted a water birth), I accept that that's what needed to happen and all that matters is that baby is healthy and well. We stayed in the hospital for a further 3 nights, and came home on Monday afternoon. I'm not hugely mobile and in a fair bit of pain after the operation, and have pretty much given up on breast feeding already (the lovely midwives spent hours with me and baby, but it's just not working out despite an abundant milk supply - baby struggles to latch on and gets very frustrated and cries). So we're currently on formula, but my plan for this afternoon is to test the breast pump to see if I can do some expressing. Have found it hard to accept that BF might not work out, but I need to focus on healing from the op and getting to know my little girl rather than stressing about feeding.

Despite everything, I've been hugely impressed with every health professional I've dealt with - I've been fortunate in that each and every one of them seemed to genuinely love their jobs and care about the women and babies they're looking after. I can't praise them enough. Oh - and silver lining to water birth not happening - £50 refund on bikini!!

I think these are the highlights - it's been an exhausting week, but it was worth it. On that note, it sounds as if the little one is about to wake up, so off I go...

I hope everyone is well - congratulations to anyone who's had their babies, labour vibes to those who want them and hugs to those who need them. Sorry haven't had time to read back...

PS: The baby does have a name, but I'm not including it here as I think some people in the real world would figure out who I am if I did...

I don't get it when women say they didn't know they were pregnant. Really? I know that some women sail through the first trimester (I felt dreadful during mine) and some women either put very little weight on or are so big they don't notice the weight gain but, even so... how can you not realise a baby's kicking you??

I think in a lot of cases, particularly younger girls, they do know. They're just in denial.

    Um, fine, I think.

We had 2 weekly scans to 9 weeks, I'm 11+3 now and my 12wk scan is next Thursday. Still feeling symptomy - a bit queasy, utterly exhausted, boobs still hurt, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. I don't know, it's hard to think about because it's easier to assume that it's not going to work out. The consultant seems hopeful though, nothing came up in the tests they did at the RMC so as far as we know there's no reason it shouldn't be fine. We're already further along than we've ever been - at the last scan it had started to actually look like a baby and gave a little wiggle! - so we're tentatively hopeful.

How's things with you? Your nursery looks lovely, babies don't need that much space - and all your shelves are off the floor so when it starts moving about it won't fling everything on the floor and giggle hysterically as my DSS apparently used to do...

I really don't know but I've seen this show a few times now and a lot of the women on it are in their late 20s and 30s. I saw one lady who was pregnant with her 3rd child and didn't know. There was another lady who had been told she had mc'd but it turned out that she had lost one baby but another had survived.

It all sounds promising :) I understand your worry though, I still worry now but I've accepted that's probably not going to go away. I'll be keeping everything crossed for you next week.

I'm ok thanks, getting bigger by the day I think and I actually look pregnant now rather than tubby :) Thanks for the comments re nursery. That's what I said about not needing much room. When he gets bigger I can take the chair out of there anyway and there will be more room. We do have another spare room that is a double but we are keeping that for guests for now until little boy needs more room.
