congrats nutella
as for what to call 'bits' - you've set me off thinking now! I think boy is easy as willy is fine, but there's so many options for girl bits and some are more acceptable in public than others!!
i think my problem will come getting OH to agree on one - he and I have different ideas on what the littlies should know.......eg his 7 yr old thinks this baby is going to come out of a cut in my tummy that the doctors will make because that's how all babies get here.....I'm uncomfortable with this, and think he's more than old enough to know - it's easy to explain how he already knows he has a hole for wee and a hole for poo, well girls have the same but also another hole especially for babies to come out of - IMO that's not rude/dirty, just factual at a level he can understand....but OH thinks he's too young to know :-/
Maybe it's because I grew up in the countryside, and always had various pets, so have known about animals breeding/giving birth etc - so for me it's just one of those things that you just 'know' - I don't remember specifically learning it (apart from the sperm/egg etc detail which I remember my mum sitting me down at an older age to explain).....but I think it's odd that he has absolutely no idea. When we first told him I was having a baby, he thought boys could have babies... :-/
Thing is, he's a 'questions' kinda kid, so I just KNOW after the baby comes he's going to ask to see the cut on my tummy...and if I've had baby naturally and am BFing then he's soon going to spot there is no cut....and it'll be me who gets the question!!0 -
Afternoon ladies
Congratulations Nutella, glad you're home safely and settling in ok
Woke up with a migraine this morning, so stayed at home and slept til lunchtime. Was also sick, but I think it was part of the migraine and not a resurgance of morning sickness (fingers crossed). Headache mostly gone now but I keep feeling dizzy so taking it easy on the sofa, think I'll have to skip my pilates class tonight though, boo.
My new phone was delivered yesterday so been fiddling about setting up all the apps etc, it's very shiny2 years is really too long to wait for an upgrade though, my old phone was starting to crack up, wouldn't open emails etc. May be able to post more often now I have a phone that will let me type!

I know that some women sail through the first trimester (I felt dreadful during mine) and some women either put very little weight on or are so big they don't notice the weight gain but, even so... how can you not realise a baby's kicking you??
I think in a lot of cases, particularly younger girls, they do know. They're just in denial.
I once delivered a baby on New Years Eve in casualty to an older lady who thought she had food poisoning :eek::eek:. She had two grownup daughters and was a barmaid and at her busiest when she was struck down with these pains. They sent her to casualty and a junior doctor got the fright of his life and they called for a midwife. I hot footed it up there to catch her baby boy. Talk about shocked - she had no idea and when we talked later on she thought her lack of periods was the menopause and the rumblings in her tummy were wind :eek::eek: Now she had two previous babies so you might have thought she would have realised. Anyway baby boy was probably a few weeks early but otherwise healthy.
The pub she worked in rallied round and begged , borrowed and bought her the baby bits. I looked after her and baby for the next few days and her DD was absolutely furious and had a terrible go at her as she thought she must have known, but I dont think she realised. Anyway a few months later I was shopping and saw her, her daughters and baby boy out shopping - so happy ending. I compare that though to the concealed pregnancies where Im pretty sure the young girls knew they were pregnant but hid it. Sadly both those babes went up for adoption.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Congrats on your little girl Nutella enjoy your mummy cuddles0

turtlemoose I'm with you on this one. Be honest with them... there's no point in telling lies to the kid 'cos he will find out anyway! even my four year old girl knows where babies come out of... it hasn't damaged her
she asked where they came out of when my tummy got bigger... so i did the sensible thing and told her the truth.. and then she watched obem with me
she was fascinated! imo if the 7 year old is asking questions he deserves the truth
on his level.. and the way you described telling him sounds ideal
i'm with you!

Another vote for being honest. Don't tell them more than they need to know (i.e. just answer the specific question), tell them in terms they can understand (i.e. no need to go into details) but never, ever tell them porkies."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
