I used the Tescos pads and they were fine. I was bleeding very heavily and had a lot of stitches and these did cushion me and my bits. After I haemorrhaged and had surgery I was very paranoid about any blood/clots and so I used to show the midwife the pad every time she came to check me. I wouldn't have been able to do this with a normal sanitary towel.

Theres only one thing i'm really worried about with this lil girls birth, and that is how Dan will cope  he can't deal with sick or poo and is really squeemish at even the word placenta!! I'm dreading it!
If the kids are ill he can't clean up the sick i have to do it.. and poo well omg, if the kids have had the runs he has literally JUST and only just been able to put the offending artical either in the bin or in the wash :(
My ex husband wasn't squeemish and was brilliant during both births (for all his other faults) and brilliant after too, helping me to the loo etc etc. but i REALLY don't know how Dan will cope.... I've made him watch one born and birthing vids on the internet etc... but I'm still worried... any one got any tips?! xx

No tips as such, my OH is not the best with bodily functions either lol I am kind of hoping he just finds it within himself to 'get on with it' :rotfl:Might be kidding myself there!

    Hi ladies,

Just had the health visitor round for a pre-baby filling in of forms, I wasn't expecting them to come out before the birth but it made sense to get all the details on paper! Was a bit of a trawl through and all of the notes in my maternity file on our medical histories etc was repeated which seems silly but I guess the maternity notes are mine and these are about the baby. She seemed nice anyway though I didn't really feel up to talking much as I've been getting really strong braxton hicks all morning :o

Maternity pads, the advice from my mw was that the normal sleep strength pads are too plasticated and rub on stitches and can make you sweat so maternity pads are recommended, friends have also mentioned the asda ones to me.

Just changed our bed and found the Boots maternity bed pad thing scrunched up on DH's side  not gonna do much good over there now is it, the poor man must've been sticking to it and not realised too! Have put two more on my side! :rotfl:

Amy - I've just had the health visitor round too :) She was very nice and we had a good old chat. Been given a proper little library of leaflets which suits me as I love reading everything there is to read :) I also had to complete a genogram which I found a little strange but can understand why they like a detailed family history/overview

Also had a physio appointment this morning and have been issued with a TENS machine. No crutches as yet, will see how I get on in the last few weeks.

Hugs :grouphug:to Little Moog and BB

Happy dute date Alizee :) and hi to everyone else

I got loads of clots but not while in hospital, it was when I got home a few days later.

    TMI:
I was in a bad place when I got home (couldn't look after myself or even touch my tummy) so my husband was looking after me, in all senses and at one point the clots were so big they weren't coming out naturally so he had to pull it out. It didn't hurt but we definitely don't have any secrets anymore.:o

I had one that got stuck too :( it was so big though I couldn't get it out so had to go back to hospital at 3am on a Friday night to have it removed by the doctor (not a pleasent experience!) I also developed an infection because of it. I managed to leak though to the bed too but one if the parts I hated the most was having to go to the loo over one of those cardboard bowls so the nurse could inspect the clots :o

I took quite a few hospital maternity pads and the squares for the bed, "blues" the midwife called them, and I still have a few left so may have to dig them out nearer the time.

    xx

Just wanted to add my bit, I used Wilkinsons own brand maternity towels, they are like the old style towels, really thick. I found them quite good as I too had stitches and I'm sure the thickness helped with my sore bits down there as i had 2nd degree tears as my little one pretty much shot out of me before the pethidine kicked in! I went through 2 packs before the bleeding was light enough to switch to normal sanitary towels xx

You sound like you have a wonderful husband to take such good care of you.

My husband has always been a bit squeamish with blood but was wonderful with me. Helping me shower, changing my pad because I couldn't bend down, holding my sick tray when I was throwing up in theatre. The experience has really brought us closer.

This made my eyes fill up with tears.
