The other thing with the maternity pads are they're nice and thick and squishy... nice thick and squishy is well... nice when you have stitches and you'll take any bit of cushioning you can get!

I didn't get clots - but for the first day after I did have blood absolutely running down my legs - I remember trying to clean the shower floor, unable to bend over still, using a bit of paper towel and my feet since the thing had resembled something off CSI when I'd taken my pants and pad off to have a quick clean up! I think it's also something to do with the fact that the lost products don't get pulled into any stay dry core - so if there are any issues you can show the staff pretty easily.

Didn't bother with going to Boots though - Tesco's 90p cheapies were fine... didn't like Asda's as much - the sticky strips are too sticky and when you try to change a pad, half the pad stays stuck to yer pants.

I bought new cheapo pants - having heard your knickers got wrecked and mine didn't!

With the squares the hospital put on the bed so that when you go through the uber pads you don' t get it on the bed. I stole/was given a load of these and used them on the sofa at home so I didn't go through. I have a red sofa too

Apparently when I was in hospital although I was using the special hospital pads I still left puddles of blood around the room we were in. I was told this recently, my sisters were following me and tidying up so that I didn't get embarrassed.

I will add that my birth plan included me and my husband in the room and nobody else who was not a healthcare professional. In reality I had my husband, two sisters, Mother, mothers boyfriend and sister-in-law. Just go with the flow and don't worry if things don't go exactly to plan, I understand they rarely do.

With regards to heat, I have two blankets on the sofa so that in the evening it is easy just to grab one to warm up. If we have visitors I tend to put the heating on so they aren't uncomfortable. I have a problem at my mothers because the heating is always on, plus the fire even in the summer. I wake up with huge headaches because I am so dehydrated. When I was younger I used to sleep with the window open to survive.

I got loads of clots but not while in hospital, it was when I got home a few days later.

TMI:
I was in a bad place when I got home (couldn't look after myself or even touch my tummy) so my husband was looking after me, in all senses and at one point the clots were so big they weren't coming out naturally so he had to pull it out. It didn't hurt but we definitely don't have any secrets anymore.:o

Dizzi- i think my oh has gone insane lol- he rang me up to say "you do know you have to book an appointment to go to the car boot at chilwell olympia don't you?" How can such an intelligent man be so ungifted in the common sense department?! I told him "no dear thats if you are selling stuff, you need to book a pitch!" Cqar boots do not do viewing by appointment!!! :rotfl: I could see him going red through the phone lol.

Oh is going shopping tonight so I'm going to do him a list.. on that list will be 5 packs of mat towels and some cheapie pants! oh and another pack of dummies.

Childbirth- you leave your dignity at the door! honestly no body tells you when you have your first that every time you shower/have a bath it will look like a murder scene! it wasn't something i was prepared for the 1st time round tbh.

You sound like you have a wonderful husband to take such good care of you.

My husband has always been a bit squeamish with blood but was wonderful with me. Helping me shower, changing my pad because I couldn't bend down, holding my sick tray when I was throwing up in theatre. The experience has really brought us closer.

I don't remember any ickyness in the weeks after the birth of DS, I think I have blocked it out

Two things I do remember vividly though were being in hospital bed the day after the section and getting up to try and walk for the first time, I got out of bed and it looked like a murder had taken place :eek: Also the first shower I took in hospital was horrendous, I think the memory of that will stay with me forever...

Theres only one thing i'm really worried about with this lil girls birth, and that is how Dan will cope :eek: he can't deal with sick or poo and is really squeemish at even the word placenta!! :eek: I'm dreading it!
If the kids are ill he can't clean up the sick i have to do it.. and poo well omg, if the kids have had the runs he has literally JUST and only just been able to put the offending artical either in the bin or in the wash
My ex husband wasn't squeemish and was brilliant during both births (for all his other faults) and brilliant after too, helping me to the loo etc etc. but i REALLY don't know how Dan will cope.... I've made him watch one born and birthing vids on the internet etc... but I'm still worried... any one got any tips?! xx

I used the Tescos pads and they were fine. I was bleeding very heavily and had a lot of stitches and these did cushion me and my bits. After I haemorrhaged and had surgery I was very paranoid about any blood/clots and so I used to show the midwife the pad every time she came to check me. I wouldn't have been able to do this with a normal sanitary towel.

No tips as such, my OH is not the best with bodily functions either lol I am kind of hoping he just finds it within himself to 'get on with it' :rotfl:Might be kidding myself there!
