Just been catching up on the thread and thought I would post a quick one just to say;
Birth congratulations to Charli!!!
Welcome to the newcomers to the thread (sorry I can't remember names now).
And labour vibes to those that need them.
Oh and, congratulations on reaching V day to whoever that was (I am so sorry, I have forgotten your name as well - I am being a bit rubbish today I'm afraid).0 -

I don't think it will but I'm just going to do some measurements now. Wanted to get a small chest of drawers and a rocking chair in there too but I think I may have to get a non-rocking one
DH and his parents keep bugging me to go with a cotbed and they won't listen to me when I say it's not going to fit!
xx
Have you tried putting the cot in at an angle ? so its into one of the corners ? (that sounds rubbish so im going to try and find a piccy)
we are using a box room too, though ours has no heating & a cupboard over the stairs so its a difficult space but worked ok for our boys so hopefully when we've cleared out all the carp and can see the floor again I can see how its going to work :rotfl:Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -
Morning all
Slept badly last night despite doing everything my midwife/GP/obstetrician/OH has been nagging me to do for the last couple of weeks - take Gavison, paracetomol and codeine and the subutomol spray immediately before going to bed and lean on a pillow. I think it was probably down to baby wiggling further down as almost every time I feel him move now I feel the urge to go to the loo.
Went back to bed once my OH had left for work and apart from getting woken up by a soggy cat crying outside my bedroom door - she just wanted rubbing with a towel to get dry, I managed to sleep for another 2 hoursWoke up to find both cats curled up with me
One of them really likes curling up by my bump and purring - think it's probably one of the most common sounds baby hears. A few days ago they (Mini the cat and baby) seemed to be having a poking match - baby kicked, Mini pushed back, baby kicked again. Only for a couple of minutes but was amusing
I was interested in the comments about feeling engaged as I keep getting weird feelings down there, especially around my groin so think baby is at least trying to engage - don't think he is yet and I'm guessing it wouldn't be expected yet (35 weeks tomorrow).
Got a midwife appt tomorrow so going to try to pin her down to going through a birth plan with me because last time it was apparently too early. Got the obstetrician appt and another scan next week but when I brought up birth plans with the obs last time she said I needed to discuss it with the midwife first.
Gin, I quite like the idea of not knowing I'm in labour until I'm that dilated - any idea how I can make it happen?Glad your babies weren't distressed.
Littlemoog sorry you've had such a rough time with the way you've been treated with your hypothyroidism. I had similar issues with medication throughout my pregnancy which are now being investigated by the hospital after I wrote my complaint letter.
From your description it sounds like there could've been faults on both the GP and the hospital side.
It may be worth as a first step contacting the GP practice and asking when the referral was made to the consultant. At my practice if you pop into reception and ask the receptionist to look something like this up they'll just do it and be willing to print off a copy if you ask nicely.
If it was made when you informed the GP stating the reason for the referral (i.e. your pregnancy) then it's the hospital who should've seen you quicker or at least the consultant should've written to the GP or directly to yourself with some guidance.
Who ordered the blood tests and to whom were the results sent? Most GPs will defer dosage decisions to the specialist consultant unless they've received guidance from the patient's specialist. The problem comes when the results are not acted on in a timely manner. - This was the essence of my own complaint as I've been having 4 weekly blood tests but my GP nor myself was being informed of the results for 4-6 weeks by which point they became irrelevant.
When writing your complaint it may be worth doing a timeline - i.e. you told the GP on X date, the referral letter was sent on Y date, Blood tests done and results received on these dates.... dates of medication changes and final referral date. Mention the comments of your consultant about medication errors and it may also be worth adding that you didn't feel listened to or have your concerns met when you finally saw a consultant.
Miss Money you made me giggleIt may make you feel better that I tried to make tea in the kettle a few weeks ago - fortunately I realised before putting it all to boil
We're another family who are likely to put baby into the box room once they're too big for the moses basket (not decided yet as it's currently functioning as a study room so depends partly on whether my OH passes his exams first time). We're putting the cot on the wall opposite the radiator and will just keep an eye on the temperature - our baby monitor has a room temperature monitorI think providing baby can't reach out and touch the radiator and we make sure baby isn't too hot/cold it should be fine

I too have limited space in my little bedroom and the cot will end up fairly near the radiator. But... I'm not going to have it on when the baby's in bed. I'll use it to heat up the room during the day if it's cold but, tbh, I doubt it would dip below 16 degrees in there. I know that's at the bottom end of comfortable but she'll be six months by the time I move her in there. I never have my radiator on in my bedroom, I couldn't bear the stuffiness. I appreciate I'm better at regulating my own temperature but central heating's only been common since the 60s or 70s (and fires stopped being used in bedrooms way before then) so entire generations have slept in unheated bedrooms without dying."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

emsbet - I wouldn't worry too much about the radiator, just turn it down to a low setting, to keep the chill out of the room, then use blankets. If you fix a room thermometer to the cot, or place it near the cot, you'll have a fairly accurate idea of the temp the baby is experiencing. At our antenatal classes we were told to have a feel of baby's tummy or back to see if they feel a nice warm (but not hot) temperature.
At the same class, someone asked what temp to set the house thermostat at, and they said about 22 degrees!! :rotfl: I don't think our house has ever been that warm, even with the heating on full blast! We're lucky to get it above 18 degress, we'd boil if it was 22!
Thinking about it, it wasn't long ago that noone had central heating and they managed fine! I agree with Miss Money about keeping the radiator away from curious little fingers though, even if you just put a board or something between the cot and radiator.
Well, midwife has just left and...drumroll please....baby is still breechShe's booked me in for Moxibustion next week, which sounds a bit weird but worth a try I guess. Then it's a question of having another scan week after next, to see if it's changed position. Also to check the size, as if it's big, they won't even attempt a ECV. My midwife said there wasn't much point in talking through a birth plan today as she's not particularly confident that I'll be having a natural birth
Not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. Obviously I don't WANT a section, but equally I'm quite a pragmatic person and if that's the best way to get baby out safely, then fine. The thing I'm actually most anxious about is the prospect of staying in hospital overnight (2 nights) without DHBut I'd be a lot happier about being booked in for a c-section than ending up with an emergency section, that's for sure!
Have just had a cup of tea and a piece of Rocky Road to cheer myself up

Thanks ladies for all the advice.
I've been playing around with the dimensions and I think the best way to fit everything in would be to have the cot parallel to the radiator and window. It would be about a metre away so baby wouldn't be able to reach it and I'll turn the radiator down/off in there when bubs is in there. I'm going to monitor the temperature of the room for a while and see how it fluctuates.
Mishka, I can't put the cot in a corner as due to the layout of the box, shelves and door the only corners are by the radiator.

It's definitely what you're used to isn't it? My house is typically around 19 - 20 degrees (when the heating's on in the evening. During the day when I'm moving around doing chores and stuff it's often colder). I couldn't bear it warmer than that.
