Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. Bowling was fun. I was rubbish but I enjoyed myself. And we had a really lovely meal at the local Harvester afterwards. I love their salad bar! Then came home for a much needed afternoon nap.

Emsbet, I sympathise with you having trouble finding maternity clothes. I had a nightmare finding jeans. I don't really like under bump ones but couldn't get any of the over the bump ones to fit - they kept falling down when I walked! I ended up with some from New Look which are sort of inbetween - they have a stretchy elastic waistband a couple of inches wide. Not sure how comfy they will be as I get bigger but they're fine for now and they only cost me £11 so were a bargain really.

I think I need to start making a list of things to buy for baby. He only has two outfits so far. I keep looking at stuff and feeling overwhelmed because I don't really have a clue what to get. DH has ordered a baby monitor though so that's one thing to cross off the list.

Gtothec, I hope you feel happier soon - I can thoroughly recommend vanilla hob-nobs to help :)

Awk thanks pet - I do now. Just moaning and mooching around the house earlier. Have now made a list of oddjobs and feel all motivated to get things done!

Of course, first I made a large dent in my mars fun-size minis selection. with lashings of tea. :)

OMG...I've not even thought about baby clothes. I'm secretly hoping that people just turn up with stuff for me so I don't have to buy anything. lol

For anyone struggling to find trousers I recommend a Bump Band. You leave your trousers open and put a bump band on top. It covers the open zip, holds trousers well and is really comfy. Now that my belly is bigger I noticed it helps to hold my belly up a bit as well. If you have longer tops no one will see you're wearing it and even if they did it just looks like a bottom of a black t-shirt underneath your top. It's quite wide so for smaller bellies may need to be folded in half.

I bought 2 pairs maternity trousers for work and now regret this as they no longer fit me - money wasted :( Then I bought the Bump Band I can now wear my pre-pregnancy trousers without any problems. If only I'd known about it before!

A perfect way to spend a Monday afternoon :)

BB, excellent news about the loft conversion! It's coming along very nicely, I remember when you said they were first starting it. Do you have a completion day yet? And will there be lots of decorating to do?

  • Right BB hopefully I get this right. I was recently informed that vests can be short or long sleeved. However sleep suits are the ones with legs on. I hope I've remembered that right! That's how I've put them on my list of stuff anyway :)

As for muslin squares, I'm really baffled about the usefulness of these. They look very thin to absorb much vomit. I think it was Gin who bought little white towels from Ikea for 19p each instead. I have some of these already so may stock up on these instead.

You'd be amazed how much sick you can catch in a bundled up muslin! :D We got through tons of them until he just suddenly seemed to grow out of the megapukes.

P.s. a sleepsuit is an all in one, a bodysuit is a vest. :)

I had Next over the bump jeans (well the jean part was under bump, there was a wide jersey band going over the top) - they drove me nuts since I hate the feeling of half-mast trousers anyway but did the job... tend to find you've got to order the maternity bits online though.

With clothes - I do have a lot of soft "outfit" type things for her - things like pinafores with leggings under (I refuse to do baby tights)... so I tend to put her in babygros overnight and then something prettier during the day - would be a shame not to and I think it kind of helps with figuring out day from night in the long term... plus she's a pain in the backside with babygros - because she's got such long arms and legs, we have to go up a size (she's in tiny baby and not early baby) to fit the limbs, so the body bit's utterly swamped then when she balls up into a foetal position the arms and legs get stuck inside the babygro as well.

I'd basically budgetted on about 6 of 'em though as a start (then everyone buys you stuff anyway) - when you factor in leaking nappies, spitting up milk, pees and poos mid-nappy change... you can end up with a fair few in the wash on one day - and it depends how dilligent you are with running the machine... since we got home I've washed every other day minimum (and I'm normally someone who washes when pants reach crisis point) - got into the routine of leaving a basket at the top of the stairs and everything to go downstairs - nappy sacks for the bin, washing, used bottles to go down and be washed out, coats that we might need for going out later that morning - ALL gets chucked in the basket and brought down on a morning, and then likewise on the return trip back upstairs with clean washing to be hung up, and anything to go upstairs on an evening... it helps a lot and minimises the "ooh I just need to go get X" running up and down.

I'd suggest buying two of things baby-change related though and keeping a set up and downstairs - nice to just be able to pull the changing mat and box of baby bits from behind the sofa and do a quick change downstairs during the day - especially when midwives and the like come round and want them naked to weigh them.

We had everything sorted in different sizes, all washed and filed in different drawers, newborn stuff in hospital bag - then she came so early and we had to send grans on frantic runs around shops to find stuff that would fit her! Since then we've had mountains of clothes bought - trouble is it's all nice summer dresses in 0-3 months... going to be autumn before they fit her!

As for chocolate - since I got those laboury pains eating my easter egg... I can't face dark chocolate at all... got two bars of Green and Blacks and half an egg still untouched!
