jovichick123 wrote: »I have just had a count up of the clothes we have for baby and we don't have as many as I thought
I have so far:
1 x Bath towel and mitt
3 x Muslin squares (defo need more of these!)
7x 0-3month sleepsuits
12 x 0-3 months bodysuits
3 x newborn hats
2 x scratch mitts (as with muslin squares - need more)
1 x 'coming home' outfit
1 x 3-6 month sleep suit and hat
How much more would you all buy? I don't want to buy so much I end up with stuff not worn but the above list doesn't seem like enough really!
I wasn't really sure myself but after asking friends and family, I'd suggest you definitely need some more sleepsuits. You might want some in a smaller size too (unless you know you're having a whopper). I showed my SIL my 0-3 month stuff and she said it would swamp average-sized newborns.
All the sleepsuits I've bought have got integrated scratch mitts so I've not bought any. (Apparently they fall off all the time). If my baby scratches when s/he's in a bodysuit (which doesn't have the mitts) I'll just sellotape its arms to its body or something."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Because when you get back home, you just take your jeans off and get back in bed! That's what I do on a Sunday morning anyway"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I thought they stayed put really well but I guess the proof is in the testing in terms of absorbancy and I haven't been very leaky tbh, they are quite expensive too, I have some more to try when LO gets here so will give them a go and shop around for the best price if they are as good as everyone says!0 -

A third off in Waitrose at the moment. They're also cheap on Amazon (but be careful because there are a number of links - look at the difference between the first and third entries).

We bought some smaller size (think they're called 'first size') in Asda at the recommendation of our friends, apparently they wash really well so we got plain white packs of sleepsuits and vests, saying that, we were told to buy very little so we've bought about the same as you Jovi as we were told to expect to be given a lot of clothes as gifts, we have a large family who tend to like to spoil new babies so we have enough to get by if we needed to do some washing urgently, then we'll see what we are given too - I have heard from my mother and mil that the great aunties have made several shopping trips for our LO already!0 -
Happy birthday Elelyn! :j
Glad you are feeling better now MrsManda and Gtothec, I hope you feel happier soon - I can thoroughly recommend vanilla hob-nobs to help
Snap Jovi and Amy - I've got about the same as on Jovi's list and friends with children have all said not to buy too much more as people like to give clothes as presents. I was thinking back to presents I have bought new parents - I never wanted to buy clothes in case they didn't fit so tended to go for keepsakes like record books and 'baby's first boxes'
Now all I really want in my life is a pate and pickle sandwich on crusty white bread...I can't believe I haven't eaten pate since October! :eek:MFW!

My daughter was 7,12 and really long and matalan newborn drowned her. We had to go buy some early baby. As for the one cooking, I think he's gonna be a beast so bought mostly newborn and 0-3. I advise keeping baby mostly in sleep suits for ease for first few weeks. As lovely as cute little outfits are, they a pain in !!!! to change llllove you lots like jelly tots0

hi everyone!
I have been lurking the past day or two without posting, mainly because I've been on my phone and i'm so slow at typing on that! Last night I came on the PC and wrote a MAMMOTH post, only for my internet connection to drop off when I hit send... That infuriated me so much I couldn't face attempting to write it all out again!
Hello to the newbies, I've spied a couple  Sorry for no name-dropping - I did last night but can't remember who it was now, sorry
RE baby clothes - what's the difference between sleepsuits and bodysuits?I'm totally clueless when it comes to this sort of thing (similar with baby bedding!) I just call them all baby-grows, either long sleeved or short sleeved...! I've been given a fair few newborn or 0-3months, but don't have much beyond that. However I'm working on the basis that either we'll be given some, or otherwise Mothercare/Asda/Sainsburys isn't far away and someone can go and get a pack or two. I'm not sure my baby is going to be in newborn size for very long, given that it's likely to be at least 9lbs...
RE maternity wear, I have a very limited wardrobe at the moment! Living in one pair of work trousers (from Target in the US, so not much use to anyone, but they are so comfy - come right up under my boobs!), one pair of jeans (from Peacocks, they're ok but come halfway up my bump which isn't the most comfy - I often end up turning the band over so it sits under bump), and a few pairs of leggings a size or two bigger than normal (from Peacocks, they were cheap and are nicely high-waisted to cover bump). I also have a pair of non-maternity yoga pants from Primark that are soooo comfy as the band that would normally be turned over can be worn pulled up right over bumpVery sexy. Great for schlomping in and only a fiver. Apart from that I have a couple of maternity teeshirts (Peacocks and H&M), a couple of smarter tops (from ebay), and everything else is just normal clothes that are either long or super-stretchy! Oh and I have a lovely Blooming Marvelous maternity dress that I bought for attending two weddings - from ebay.
My main problem at the mo is actually shoes - my feet keep swelling up so I can only really wear trainers or flipflops, and it's not exactly been the weather for the latter!
Ooh - I'm very excited because my friend texted me earlier to say that her waters broke in the early hours, and she's currently in hospital waiting for things to ramp up a bit. Hopefully everything is progressing well as they told her otherwise she'll have to be induced tomorrow morning.
I'm also very excited because my loft is coming along very nicely - had plasterers, electricians and plumbers in today! Have now got all the wiring and pipes in ready for light fittings and bathroom suite etc to be fitted once the plastering has been finished. Most of the stud partition walls are now boarded on one side, so we can really see what the rooms are like now. Baby's room is done apart from the plaster skim, which I'm really happy about as I was a bit worried it was going to seem impractically small. It is tiny, but perfectly fine for a babbaNow I just have to hope that all the bathroom stuff I ordered arrives asap...
Ooh I hope things have gone well for Charli today....! Hopefully she's having mummy cuddles as we speak, or at least soon! :j
Ikkle - your stepdad sounds like a bit of an !!!! (sorry), that's a horrible thing for him to say. Fine if he doesn't want to get excited (although I'm sure he will be once bubs arrives), but it's not fair of him to dampen your mum's excitement. Your mum should stand her ground and certainly not stop talking about it if she wants to! Don't let it stop you, either!
What else did I want to say... oh yes, happy birthday elelyn! Hope you've had a lovely day
Right well that's probably enough waffling from me for one evening (or one post, at least!)
