I guess for me hospitals are for sick/injured people. I'd rather be at home in our own environment with bubba, getting to know him without being surrounded by others. You could have a really nice bunch on a maternity ward or the others could just be loud and inconsiderate. I think i'd recover quicker in the privacy and quietness of my own home. If there's someone very obviously wrong with LO I would hope we'd realise quite early, but realistically I'm not sure how much time midwives/drs look at the LO and it seems mums and dads seem to notice problems anyway and them can seek medical help.
Sorry for that ramble, woke up (wee time of course) and was water dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom. Didn't wanna wake OH but he woke up and saw me wide awake and now has investigated the loft etc. we do have a dodgy tile on our roof but he thinks it's not from there. Hopefully now it's stopped. Now he's talking about new roofs :-(

I'd have to agree with dizziblonde and little miss moneysaver hospitals are not the best places for a mum and baby, unless there is something wrong.
I had an assisted birth- ventouse and episiotomy so had to stay on a ward. Births that are problem free can stay in private rooms, I was gutted! The ward was noisy, there was a woman crying because her baby was crying, then because she couldn't feed him, then she was crying because he was feeding. I heard her say after she had depression, anxiety and slight paranoia- god help her child!
There was another mother who kept pressing her buzzer every 5 mins and a teenage mum who needed a nurse to watch her baby so she could go downstairs for a cigarette! Like they haven't got better things to do. They don't really look at the babies they must hope that the mums will notice if there is anything wrong.
Needless to say I had very little sleep, considering it took over 33 hours to get Isabella out. I was shattered, really wished I'd taken ear plugs. I was quite eager to go home the next days sore stitches or not!
It's the first time I've ever stayed in hospital and it really opened my eyes. Fingers crossed if I have another it'll be smooth sailing so I can have a private room and DH can stay.Got married 13/11/10

Patience is a virtue I lack!0 -
I'll admit I did more than my fair share of crying while in ours - not much else to do when you're dumped in a darkened ward, still shaking from the reaction to the spinal block and unable to leave the bed yet cos you can't feel your legs, your baby - that you've seen for all of 10 seconds - is on a unit a floor and a walk away and you're left listening to newborns cry and be comforted by their mums, and happy good-news phonecalls, and people are staring at you like you're a freak show because you haven't got your baby with you (I made the Bounty woman run away in terror - quite proud of that one considering she has the general demeanour of a rottweiler with toothache).... oh god and the screaming - I still hear it now when I close my eyes - just constant screaming.
We're possibly facing readmission over her ongoing jaundice - and it's absolutely my worst nightmare having to go back in there.
As for fellow inmates - we had the woman who the staff (who basically resorted to the Basil Fawlty school of communicating with people who spoke poor English - shout loud and slow with hand gestures) were having to yell at that "YOU MUST FEED THE BABY" because she'd left the bairn 9 hours...then dad showed up at the start of visiting - dumped the toddler with her - and vanished... so the toddler spent the next 8 hours banging the lid of the bin, breaking the bedside light and looking under the curtains of the other cubicles (the other 2 people in the war discharged themselves to get away from this)... oh and they brought the priest in to pray over the baby loudly at 8am as well.
We had the dad who was chucked out very very loudly by the hospital staff on the directions of social services.
We had the visitor making comments someone's baby was suntanned - when he was jaundiced - visitor and mum nearly squared up for a punch-up.
The people who have 10 visitors, all armed with the mandatory balloons, who stay for the full 2.30 to 8.30 visiting time and don't know the meaning of a quiet voice.
There was basically a line outside the ward before the start of visiting every day that resembled the collection you'd see on the Jeremy Kyle show (but with added balloons).
Oh and the git who nicked my sudocreme (yes I bear a grudge over this one)Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Morning all!
Well I managed to pick up a bargain at the baby table-top sale this morning. Unfortunately there was only one pushchair there and it was cheap looking and brown, as well as being overpriced. However, we managed to pick up a M&Ps vibrating baby bouncer for £4. We checked it worked before buying obviously, and it comes with the instructions etc. We also bought a couple of packs of white cotton vests with neutral animals/toys printed on the chest - 7 in one set, and 6 in the other for £3 each set (I know it wasn't that much of a bargain for these, seeing as they aren't much more in the supermarkets, but the designs were cute). Trouble is, we've now got to decide where we're going to put stuff now that we've bought these items as we hadn't really thought that far ahead yet - good job we didn't find a pushchair! lol
Having read some of your stories of your stays in hospital after the birth, I really hope that I don't have to stay in for any reason. I've only stayed in hospital overnight once (on a children's ward at the age of 17 as I was still classified as a child), and hardly got any sleep - didn't get into a bed until midnight, and was then woken at 6am by the nurse taking my blood pressure! I was very relieved to go home and get some sleep! Luckily I never had to use any showers, and I only had 1 meal, which was breakfast, and the hospital couldn't do toast for some reason.
Well good luck and labour vibes for all of the boldies. Hope you're all having mummy cuddles soon.
Hugs for those who need or want them,

13 weeks to go till EDD!
when are people attending antenatal classes compared to their due dates?
i have been booked in for classes when i am 33 - 34 weeks pregnant, little bit worried if baby comes early i wont have a clue what to do. these were the only available dates. OH is attending daddynatal classes in may and asures me he will tell me what to do lol
i read the thread on friends /family visiting after birth - interesting, i never thought about this really. think i will try and keep the birth a secret for a couple of hours so we can rest and get breastfeeding established. i know as soon as my mum and MIL know they will be racing to the hospital hehe

I feel like my bump has shrunk this morning - is this normal? Have felt a few movements this morning but am still worrying.
Put my mind at rest please!0 -
Bellola, don't worry. Bumps do change quite a bit according to the position baby is in. mine went from being quite wide one day to very narrow and in front when bubs changed from head up to down.
If baby's movements have changed, call the midwife, but otherwise don't panic!
