rakkibeth- I had a prolapsed disc last year and i had deep muscle acupuncture for it. It cured it! I went back this year at 27 weeks to have some more in the hope it would help relive some of my spd symptoms. It did help a bit. one of my friends is a trained deep muscle acupuncture nurse and said i could self refer to the city hospital for treatment. I really would go if i could actually get there. Trouble is i don't drive due to epilepsy and going on the bus is too much for me to manage with crutches and a little one in tow. I would say though that these alternative practices are actually worth doing if you can get them as they can have a positive impact :) i asked my friend to come and do it at home but the insurance payments were ridiculous!! so I gave up on the whole idea :o:( it would be an hours bus ride to one hospital, then 40 mins by bus link to the next (then all the walking that ensues with it) anything more than taking little one to nursery which is a road away and i need a wheelchair so not practical! but if you drive and can get about i'd highly recommend giving anything a go lol xxx

Oh Miss_Money, that's not fair that it's such a trek for you.... could there be any registered accupuncturists or osteopaths nearer to you at all? I'm lucky that I can drive, as public transport near me is not great (trains are good but the station is a 15 min drive away!).

The other thing is that ostepaths and other such treatments aren't cheap (I pay £35 per session) but IMO if I get something positive from them then it's a matter of weighing up how much the treatment is worth to my daily life. For my migraines it was a no brainer. But I also understand that some people may have financial constraints too. I was lucky that my company health insurance covered my first few appointments.

I hope things start to feel better soon.

ps. another thing my osteo said was to think about footwear; before I was pregnant I wore high heels or completely flat boots all day everyday and didn't really take any notice when she said that I could do with more supportive footwear. Even though I have mortons neuroma in both feet (where the nerves can get caught and can cause swelling and burning in the ball of the foot - yep, self-inflicted I know!)

Towards the end of my first tri and for the first part of my second tri I wore ugg boots constantly, and she told me off saying that they didn't give anywhere near enough support, putting pressure on my lower back. I then bought a pair of fit flop boots that were like short uggs, but with a lovely soft thick cushionny sole. They are so comfy and warm, and I have worn them everyday since I bought them about 10 weeks ago. My feet don't hurt at the end of the day, and the heel incline means that it helps keep me in the correct walking posture, and my weight balanced. She gave them a big thumbs up at my last appointment!

I can't even get to the acupuncturist that is closest due to nothing being on a simple bus route!!! ah well :) not long to go now, and then if i need any help after the birth at lease i will be able to get on a bus :)

  • Rakkibeth aren't fit flops just the best? A friend of mine mentioned footwear but because of my dodgy bits I try and be a bit sensible. I've got four boots and three flip flop fit flops. They're amazing, expensive to buy but amazing! Glad I have them as I'm not sure I could justify spending that much now.
Might have a look locally for osteopaths, have seen a chiropractor and had acupuncture in the past and found it great. I'd not really though about it - blame baby brain! Thank you for suggesting it.
Miss Money maybe your dad could take you? Or a friend?
Just having a sit down between shopping bags, there's so much of it. I've a huge plastic crate where I'm stockpiling food for harder times when I'm on SMP. Still two lovely men bought it all in for me and put it on the sofa for me. Rather them getting all rained on than me.

I haven't done it. I do feel very down and tearful everyday but then I think I'm being silly and theres no need for the docs.. the midwife has just told me its not normal to be tearful everyday... I said even with all my mobility probs and the oh being a Kn0b?! hmmm I'm trying to think about it too much :o am i depressed or just a bit upset? I have no idea anymore!!!! :o:o Midwife is going to ring back on wednesday to see how I am.

I would ring your GP miss money, your dr won't tell you you are being silly but if you are depressed (and your midwife's right it's not normal to cry everyday) (s)he will be able to help you so that you don't feel so bad.

    hello ladies,

not been on for a few days so thought i would come check in and see how you all are?

A little bit of a laugh for the ladies with SPD, I've got SPD too at 17 weeks and I'm really struggling. Went for a health care assessment check at doctors as we are new patients, although i've already seen a gp and midwife there. Well the nurse was asking me how often I go walking, how fast etc, do I do any other activites, which led to her screen saying I led an inactive lifestyle, which at the minute due to pain I do. She then went on to recommend I go jogging and cycling?!?! To which my OH asked her if she was joking and she said no, the exercise will be good, so he said she's 17 weeks pregnant and has SPD some days she can't even pull her own knickers up how do you expect her to ride a bike?! Did make me chuckle. And I can pull my knickers up I just have to be sat down to do so first lol.

I've won a few more baby bits on ebay etc.

Stepdad is being an !!!, said he doesn't want to hear about the baby because it's not due till October and it's like talking about christmas.

    hope your all good.

Good luck for your scan emsbet xxx

  • Oh Ikkle that did make me chuckle!! What did she said to the knicker comment?

Miss Money there's nothing to loose by ringing your GP. May help to speak to someone neutral who might be able to suggest something or someone that might be able to help.
