Had my mum-to-be spa treatment for my birthday last week. Wow it was amazing. I'm feeling like a new woman. Happy we're just ordering curry now. Really fancy one, but I'm very wimpy just korma for me. Might try hot ones in another 20 weeks time tho!

Hi ladies. I was having a conversation yesterday with my very PG stepSIL, and she asked me what things i thought were essential.. Hope its ok, but i thought i would post my answer here, in case it was any use to you...
If you are planning to start BF, then this is my number one recommendation!

Dont underestimate how much time you will be stuck on the sofa/in bed/in the nursing chair feeding LO, or being slept on, and not able to reach to pick up a glass or get a refill! This was a total saviour, as you can clip the tube to you, and suck without using your hands. It would also have been very very useful during labour, and after the birth but it didnt arrive in time! Hospitals only seem to have those weeny little plastic cups, which dont even hit the sides of the thirst, and calling someone to top you up, or getting a refil can take hours!
The other 2, are a changing table and a nursing chair. Both i debated about for ages, the changing table i bought before LO arrived, and boy, am i glad i did. Bending down to do it on the floor or bed after the birth would have crippled me! If you can possibly fit one in, i would get one. If you dont have space constraints, then try some out, to get on the right height as it will be more comfortable. We could only fit one particular one in the one space, and its a little low, but better than nothing.
The nursing chair, i decided not to get, and thought it was a luxury. I caved in at 2 months, when the back ache from nursing in bed and rocking LO one to sleep there, got too much! Definately NOT a luxury! I just wish i had it sooner, in the early marathon feed days. If you can squeeze one in somewhere, get one!
I would also say, dont underestimate how many packs of maternity pads you will need- i got through 5!
Oh, and incase you are still packing snacks for energy, can i recommend Kendal mint cake (with or without chocolate coating!), We had a load of different stuff, but the mint cake really packed a heft energy punch when i really needed it, without too much time/effort chewing and swallowing, or faffing around!
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks ladies, think I'm even more confused now though! I just don't understand how I am going to be able to go from bringing home circa £1300 after tax a month to £500 ish plus child benefit. It's very worrying! And the last thing I want to be stressing about is money.
Will post on the benefits board me thinks and see what they reckon.
Congrats Goppers!0 -
Hi Laura  Yes time really is flying by!
Some days it seems like this pregnancy has flown by, but then others it feels as though I have been pregnant forever!
Happy its so funny trying to turn over in the night - its almost a military operation with all the pillows it takes to get in to a comfortable position. Trouble is, I need to turn over every hour and every time I do I wake up hubby as he is a light sleeper. Poor thing, he is nearly as tired as me!
I might have to get a hot curry in the next few days. I ve already started on the pineapple juice. So dont want go go overdue!!0 -
Thanks Kira that is very helpful. Is there anything you spent your money on that has been a complete waste of time?
Bellola - yes I'd post on there. It is a total minefield and can be very hard to get your head around.
Charli - oh I hate it when I wake up in the night. I sit up and extract myself from the pillows, waddle to the toilet, then clamber back in bed on my other side whilst rearranging my pillows. It's like a military operation. I know my sleep will still be interrupted but the thought of just being comfy and able to sleep in a better position is what I'm looking forward too.
LMMS - glad you had a nice day. I'm not a lover of korma myself as I detest coconut. It's a good job I'm sleeping alone cos this curry is all powerful if you catch my drift!!!

Congrats to Goppers!
yay for lovecrafting and Isla.
Good luck to flutterby. AT our hospital we have been told to ring straightaway if your waters go so it might be worth a quick call if you haven't done so already. Thanks guys, I'm 39 weeks today so 4 weeks behind. I'm ok and babys hb ok, just want her to be ok
I'm measuring about 4 weeks behind too but no mention of inducing me, I wish they would I'm dying to meet my little one now baby Snoopy has arrived!!
I had a lovely time this afternoon visiting Snoopy and Baby Isabella, she's such a little cutey and sooooo well behaved, she never stirred the whole time I was there, if I get one as well behaved as her I'll be very happy!! They were meant to be going home this evening so hopefully they'll be home and settled by now.
Right, time for me to go put the kettle on! DH is at work so I'm having to make my own cups of tea!0 -

Ummm. There hasnt been alot TBH, as i did loads of research first. I didnt use the disposable knickers i bought- too uncomfortable! I just bought some packs of M&S granny knickers in a bigger size and wore those instead!
I also never use the maternity/nursing pillow i bought- summerinfant one. Just couldnt get comfy using it, so just had oodles of normal pillows.
The one thing i guess is my starlight swing from Mamas and papas. Its lovely, but LO just didnt take to it, so its sitting unused in our living room, and she uses a different bouncy chair. I dont think it is a fault with the swing, cos i know people whose LO's love theirs, just different tastes differen babies. In hindsight i might have waited till LO was born then taken her into the shop to try her in them.
I also bought a fair bit of newborn, 1 month, and 0-3 clothes for my LO before she arrived- as it was NONE of the NB ever got worn, and the 1 month had one or two wears, cos when LO arrived, she was 9lb 7oz, and didnt fit the NB stuff! She was out of 0-3 by 1.5 months, and is now leaving 3-6 month clothes, just as she turns 3 months!! My advice is, dont get too much in advance as you dont know how big your LO will be, and you dont want to waste time and money on things they wont fit if they are too big for it, or if your Lo is smaller than you think, the seasons will be wrong before they fit into it.
I now have a HUGE stack of 0-6 months clothes that i have to get rid of, and no time to do anything with it!
Ooh, forgot to say, If you dont have one, get a Ewan dream sheep. Very very helpful..

Kira - I keep reading about this sheep on the FB thread but have no clue what it is. I'm going to have to google.
Lisa - glad Snoopy and Isabella are doing well. It won't be long now until we have our precious cargo aswell. And as for having to make your own cup of tea that is ridiculous. Make sure your OH makes up for it on his return!! Oh I could murder a cuppa now you put that thought in my head.
