    Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker
With regards to holidays I'm not sure what the advice is these days. I know when my DS was born you were told to wait until after the injections which were at 3 and 4 months. We took him on holiday to Cyprus when he was 6 months old and, if I'm honest, it was very stressful. I wasn't breastfeeding so the amount of stuff to take was horrendous and I did wish I hadn't gone. It depends on your circumstances and what kind of holiday you are thinking of.

Quite a few people have said it was really stressful as well so i'm still debating. It would either be a long haul trip to Florida or short haul to spain/greece etc. My OH is firmly against the idea as he thinks they will be too little, but i neeeeeeeed a holiday!

It is completely personal choice but i would agree with your OH. I think the upheaval that comes with 1, let alone 2, babies can be quite overwhelming. Although you need a holiday you need to work out if this would actually be a relaxing break that would constitute a holiday or a great big headache.

Hi Dashikii, a family friend of ours has twin girls and she took them on holiday when they were about 14 months and she said it was a nightmare, I think they went a sort of package holiday to Spain/Greece/Turkey, somewhere similar to that. The amount of clothes she needed, nappies, milk, steriliser etc. She just said it wasn't worth it and she was more stressed when she came back than what she was before she went. :(
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

WW2BR - I know nothing about reusables but i can't imagine wanting to wash them every night. That would drive me potty.

Hope your wife feels better soon. Has she eaten anything different than usual??

I wash mine every day to day and a half I'd say, it's not a massive hardship. I dismantle them once used and put all the inners inside the outer bit. Then when I wash, I just chuck them out the bucket into the machine. Cold rinse then a 30 degree wash with a little bit of persil and some nappy sanitiser.

I do use disposables while out and at night, as i've got cheapy nappies and can only safely count on 3 hours without leaks. I've got 25 in total, but 5 are not a good fit at the moment, and I only have ten boosters to go with the others to make them last longer. So really i'm only using 10 at a time and doing ok. My little one doesn't poo too often though. :D

    Afternoon all,
have only had a quick chance to go over what I've missed since Tuesday but from what I remember:
Congratulations to those who've had babies (snoopy?)
Sending love and wellbeing to lovecrafting and baby Isla.
Yay to those who've had good results and those now on maternity leave :)

I'm surprised people seem to have had their dates put back from when they are sure they conceived because mine were brought forward.

I'm not sure the precise date of conception but my period has always been regular every 28 days and I am 100% of the date of the first day of my last period. 40 weeks would be 14th June but the dating scan and every scan since has put the EDD at 8th June which in theory means I conceived 1 week BEFORE my last period started :p
Baby seems to have somehow had two weeks growth in one somewhere before 12 weeks.

Had my first antenatal class on Wednesday evening. It was interesting - mainly about how babies are born, what to look out for, when to contact the maternity unit, labour and pain relief. I'd been avoiding thinking about labour so it was helpful. The room was a bit small for the number of people attending and there was no time to chat or meet people but the information was good.

The bit about pain relief surprised me, or rather my response surprised me. Upto now I've generally been of the opinion that I want access to everything - a water birth if possible, if not the gas & air, epidural, the lot. But after listening to the midwife's very honest balanced explanation of everything I think I've changed my mind and definitely don't want an epidural or a tens and the hospital is unlikely to let me have a waterbirth which leaves me with paracetomol, codeine, pethedine and gas&air.

    In other news:
I actually got a decent night's sleep last night! :D I've been getting more and more exhausted because I keep feeling like I've got something stuck in my throat and coughing up goo and vomitting everything I lie down so not being sleeping very well at all. My OH told me to go to the GP (i'm having so many medical appointments at the moment I didn't want to add to them) so I went yesterday and my lung function is appalling and the doctor thought I was also getting acid reflux so I have an inhaler and gavison. Used them both before bed last night and slept for 4 hours undisturbed then after another dose of the inhaler I slept for another 5 hours :):)

Hope everyone's having a good weekend,
    *hugs*

He just called home with more wood fore the wood burner and shouted at me for going to asda!

I cried when he came home - he is a self employed painter/sprayer/body shop mechanic so he's just painting the last bit of a car and will be home. His mum is coming at 3 and he is only a mile away.

Re the holiday dashikii, I found it easier to go before DS was walking, we took a paddling pool and he played in that between our sunbeds. I did go with mum mum, step dad and 11 year old sister too so had lots of help. DS was on solids during ay, took baby cereal for morning and also milk for his evening bottle. He did really well and loved the water. Couldn't run off into the pool or anything and was pretty stress free. He was also easy on the plane. We went again just before he was 2 and that holiday was so stressful, especially flight as was still an infant and sat (well allegedly) on my knee, he wouldn't keep still and I found it so hard work. So personally the age suited us perfectly. Now he is 3, almt 4, he is very good on holidays, especially plane but he as to have a window seat lol.

He will be home soon Flutterby.

I have to agree aswell about taking them away before they are at that walking and running off stage. We went to Spain when Callum was 18 months and spent the whole time chasing him. I reckon the last bit of their first year is a good time cos they will sit in a high chair, have finger food etc but will also be quite easy to contain.
