Emsbet, 3 months maybe? Thereis just from end of jan so I think that's what it looks like.

That makes sense. I guess it doesn't matter too much, I just didn't want to offend anyone by taking them off too soon :p
Well done on volunteering, think your a good candidate lol.

    Morning all,

I have decided to join this thread if that's okay? I'm 15+5 weeks at the moment and have been on the 12-24 weeks thread but I have a couple of questions that I thought you ladies on here might be able to help with? This is my first baby and my due date is 8th September. I have my 20 week scan booked for 20th April and I can't wait because I really want to find out if we're having a boy or girl!

Anyway, I am having major problems with getting comfy/sleeping at night at the moment. Every time I lie down on my side I get the most awful pain in my back. As soon as I'm up and moving about I'm fine but I can't seem to be able to lie down without getting pain. As well as the back pain if I stay on my side too long I then get pain in the hip that I'm lying on. As I've been told I should only be sleeping on my side this is causing me great problems. I'm a front sleeper normally and really miss it! Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I spoke to the midwife on Monday and she suggested it could be to do with how the baby is lying, but I'm not convinced. The only suggestion she had was to use plenty of pillows for support, which I'm doing but I was thinking about getting a dreamgenii or similar. They are so expensive to buy new though and I don't want to spend a lot in case I don't get on with it. I have seen some on Ebay but I wasn't sure about buying second hand due to hygiene reasons. Emsbet, I know you got one from Ebay did you wash it or anything before you used it?

The other thing I wanted to ask is about pushchairs/prams/travel systems. DH and I went to have a look at some this weekend and we've seen a couple of possibles but I am a bit undecided about car seats. I don't know whether to get the one that fits onto a pushchair chassis or a seperate one which doesn't go on a pushchair but will last for longer so be more cost effective. The thing that's puzzling me is that I read that you shouldn't leave baby in a car seat for longer than an hour. So I'm thinking is it worth having the one that transfers from car to pushchair as an hour isn't very long to drive out somewhere, go for a walk or round the shops or whatever and then drive home again. From what I can tell I'd have to get him/her out of the car seat anyway. Does anyone have any advice?

Sorry for the long post everyone!

Welcome to the thread :) Do you want me to add your name to the list?

Erm no I didn't wash it I was too excited to use it and didn't think! Haha! I sound like a right scank now! :p The pillow was clean and the cover had been freshly washed I think (it still smells as of wash powder). I'll chuck it in the wash today with the bedding today.

Thanks Emsbet. Yes I'd like to go on the list please. Oooh it's exciting being on the main thread ha, ha, ha! I think I'll have another look on Ebay tonight for pillows. I can't bring myself to pay full price for one but just wondered if the actual pillow was washable.

Good morning all, I think I'm addicted to this thread - not good for studying :p

Welcome Elelyn, sorry you're having trouble sleeping. I've always slept on my side so cannot help much but when I was ~10 weeks I had severe back pain (so severe the midwife worried I was having an ectopic pregnancy). When the midwife sent me for a scan I saw another midwife and an obstetrician who came to the conclusion that the pain was due to my ligaments softening in preparation for the baby and as a result I'd over-strained them.
They couldn't do anything other than tell me to rest lots and take paracetamol.
The good news is the pain eased off after a couple of weeks.

I'm interested in everyone's views on the dreamgenii and the like as my friend whose now 38 weeks has been using one since she was 26 weeks and thinks it's the only way she's been able to sleep. She appears to be of the opinion that I need one or if I don't at the moment I will do soon (I'm 29 weeks on Friday).

I initially agreed with her but now I'm not so sure. I'm sleeping fine or rather the reason I'm not sleeping fine is because baby keeps attacking my bladder making me wake to go to the loo every hour or two. The bump makes it a little difficult to turn over but isn't uncomfortable when I'm settled (unlike when I'm upright during the day when I feel like I'm going to tip up :p) so I'm thinking that the only thing a dreamgenii is likely to do to me is make turning over even more frustrating. Has anyone got close to the end of their pregnancy and not needed one at all?

    Prams/buggies/travel systems:
Oh the joy  Shopping for this was the most frustrating thing I've ever shopped for. So many choices/options and no experience at all.
We're lucky because my inlaws live near Kiddicare so we had a wide range to choose from though that in many ways made it more difficult to choose.

Before we went looking we made a list of things which were important to us in order of preference - things we had to have in a pram, things which would be useful and things which we could live without. We had a look around, then came home and looked up reviews online before going back armed with another list, this time of prams we wanted to look at. Ended up buying an Uppababy Vista which ticked all our boxes.

In terms of getting one which will fit a car seat, for us it was one of the things which went on the 'would be useful but not essential' list. A colleague of my OH said they used theirs for when they just nipped to the shops and baby fell asleep in the car so they didn't have to wake him and it was a good way for a quick transfer if you're not going to be long and don't want to be bothered setting up the pram and moving the baby.

The Uppababy does have the capability to fit the carseat my OH wanted to get anyway so it kinda became a non-issue.

I'm not sure that helps at all, like I said it took us ages to make a decision :( I was very relieved when we finally bought it :)

I've edited the list so you are on it now :D It is exciting being on here and it's lovely hearing about the new babies been born and also it's good to get advice from ladies further along than you.

I've had a look at the packaging mine came in and it doesn't say whether the pillow is washable or not. I think it's just normal pillow stuffing so I can't see why not. Maybe have a looksie on their website and see if it says there?

:wave:all! Rest day for me as part of phased return to work, done the weekly food shop and dropped doggy off for his hair cut. Can't wait to pick him up at lunch time as he will look like a puppy again :) Now going to relax with a cup of tea and a magazine before attacking a ridiciously large mountain of washing up.

Woke up this morning with horrible back pain :( to add to the pain at the front of me! Been following your discussion about maternity pillows with interest, currently have a v shaped one and have to have another one in between legs. Looked at the dreamgenni one you have got Emsbet but a couple of the reviews on amazon said they work best for more petite ladies. Hmmmm, not sure what to do.

    Take care all

Well good morning babies and bumps. Hope we are all well.

Emsbet you are very kind for doing the list. Just the site of it brings me out into a cold sweat so im glad you have took on the responsibility. Was thinking, i think Icey should now be moved onto the bottom list as its 14 days since her due date.
And glad you and your pillow got on well. I hope your husband kept his jealousy at bay. Take a picture of the pillow and put it in the book you are makinh him with a heart round it saying 'emsbet 4 genii'. haha

Flutterby you poor thing being up since 5am. I was up at 6am and had some croissants for breakfast. Kicked the little man out for school at 7am and then went back to bed. Good luck revising later for your exam. Bet you cant wait to get it out of the way.

Lovecrafting - did your back pain subside last night?

MrsManda - i personally have just been sleeping with a normal pillow between my legs and that has served me ok and im nearly 37 weeks. It is annoying having to turn over and i have been known to random shout profanities at the pillow in the middle of the night. Luckily they dont talk back so its ok!!!

And welcome Elelyn. Hope you dont mind all our inane chatter!!!

Now i need crisps. Ill be back

  • Emsbet - please don't be offended - just a slight alteration, I changed myself a few pages back to move myself back a week as dates changed again and it didn't seem to have been picked up. Easier to change than ask you to change.

Please now feel free to be in charge lol - I hate doing it incase I get it wrong x x x
