Hey
Had GP appointment today and he wanted to sign me for longer (a combination of SPD and mild depression as a result of SPD) but I said that I really thought I should try being back at work. So he has agreed, recommending a phased return.
I emailed my manager this and he sent a lovely supportive reply, saying that he understands my anxieities, that we will plan a phased return via HR and occupational health and to meet Monday afternoon to discuss (and start the day then, not in the morning).
I have a question ladies...
I'm due on 22nd June. I was planning to leave work on 18th May (35 weeks), take two weeks annual leave and start offical maternity leave on 4th June (37 weeks).
However I am now thinking of starting two weeks earlier, leaving at 33 weeks and maternity leave starting at 35 weeks. This will mean 8 weeks left at work which I think is more do-able for me at this time, in terms of both my physical and mental health. Do others think this sounds too soon? I know its ultimately my decision, but would appreciate some thoughtsMy head is such a jumble at the moment

Im sorry you are having a rough time Triangle.
I think it is a personal decision and I know there are people who carry on until right up to their due date but that isn't something I could do and I have just finished at 35 weeks.
Also with your SPD and mild depression it may well benefit you to take leave earlier and give you some rest time before your little bundle arrives. Ultimately you can only do what you think is best and the decision will always be correct for you.
I know that's probably not helpful at all but it's just my opinion.

Icey - labour vibes to you, when are you seeing your midwife next?
Tomorrow morning and I'm hoping she will give me a sweep, I'll be 40+6. I'm hoping to get my usual lovely MW not the jobsworth "I won't consider a sweep until 41 weeks" one I got last week
I had acupuncture today, not sure what I was expecting but hopefully combined with a sweep tomorrow things will get a move one.
The lady that does the acupuncture is also a MW 3 days a week and was able to confirm that the period type pains I've had a few times are twinges which is also a good sign. All very well stroppy MW last week asking if I had felt any twinges when I don't know what they feel like!
Sorry for the rant, anyone get the idea I didn't like this woman? :rotfl:Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -

From the antenatal classes newborns should only have a bath once or twice a week according 2 my mw. Top and tail is for in between. No shampoo or wash or any bath products until they are a bit older as they're skin is 2 sensitive.Got married 13/11/10

Icey - hopefully the Midwife will offer a sweep and it will get things going for you. Will they book you in for an induction date tomorrow just incase or is that further down the line?
Good news that you have been having twinges though, some people dilate over a few days until they hit a certain point so maybe things are already getting ready for baby. Xx:)DS1 10yrsDS2 7yrs :)DS3 born March 2012

Oh yes Icey I think we can tell she isn't your favourite person!! I'm not surprised it annoys you because surely there is not much difference between being 40+6 and 41 weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get the lovely one xxDS1 born June 2000

I got a brand new big washing up bowl instead of a bath, cheaper and I can reuse it later.
Sometimes though it is easier just to get into the bath holding the baby, but I have to be really careful not to slip.

Hey Triangle
Sorry to hear you are having a rubbish time, but at least work is being supportive and by the sounds you are taking sensible steps to deal. It makes all the difference in the world to have a supportive boss in your situation so that is a really good thing at least
I agree only you know what is best for you and everyone is different. I am planning on working as long as possible (last day Friday 8 June after the double bank holiday), but that is only on the basis I am currently having a relatively easy pregnancy and I figured HR will either let me bring the date forward if I am suffering later on or let me book annual leave to go earlier. As I am planning on taking a full year maternity, it is not like I have to save the holiday for anything.
Maybe you could keep your maternity later and book extra leave (i.e. 4 weeks initially rather than 2)? You could cancel the holiday if you felt better about working nearer the time? Maybe your manager can agree to be flexible anyway rather than holding you to the required contractual notice for maternity leave etc given your condition.

It's one of these, my friend uses it in the shower but I want to check whether that's safe, I guess we have a large enough shower but I'm concerned about making sure the thermostat is safe, she's used it in the shower since day one though.
