In terms of inlaws/parents the advice I've been given by various people is to come up with some things which you can ask them to do so they feel useful as often they want to turn up immediately to feel involved.
My mum's coming down for a few days after my EDD to make sure I'm not alone when my OH goes to London for his exams. If baby hasn't arrived or I'm not home from hospital yet she's planning on spending her time cleaning the house and ensuring we have plenty of meals in the freezerIf I'm home with baby she'll help out and ensure I get some rest.
My inlaws only live 40 minutes away so are generally of the opinion that they'll come over when we ask them to but have let us know they're willing to do anything we want them to. Everyone else lives a few hundred miles away so will only visit when they've got permission
I spoke to my neighbour a few days ago, not seen her to speak for ages as they've been away. She asked how I was so told her I was pregnantShe was congratulatory and said that if we needed any help to let her know including taking me to hospital if something happened/I go into labour when I'm home alone as it can take my OH a couple of hours get back from work and I don't drive.

Ladies, just after some advice please. I'm 14 weeks and this week am having the worst week ever. I just can't stop puking! This is the 1st time I've felt this bad in my pregnancy so far. I work full time in an office and have to keep taking time off which I hate doing but I just don't feel I can work the way I'm feeling. Has anyone any tips or advice on what to do? How did you ladies cope with the sickness and working? I'm tempted to go to the docs but I'm not sure what they will realistically be able to do?0

OK stupid question of the day.... can I have Subway for my lunch? I don't need one with meat in, just a veggie delight with mayo is fine with me. I'm just not sure on whether or not I'm allowed it. I'm assuming they'd wash the salad properly and the mayo will be pre-made stuff and not the fresh kind you can't have?!

Sorry bellola I didn't have any morning sickness so I can't help, but suggest speaking to MW about it. My friend who just had a baby said she had it really bad, but it did disappear by week 20. She said to try ginger tea and ginger biscuits as the ginger helps with nausea.Got married 13/11/10

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'm really happy with the way I was treated at the maternity unit, hopefully it'll be the same when I need them for labour
It's strange because I was slightly worried as the unit gets a lot of complaints but now I've been there a few times I think that;s mainly because they make an effort to get you to comment and make any issues known so that they can improve.
I turned the house upside down this morning, systematically searching every room. Was getting to the despairing stage when I decided to sweep the kitchen floor which involved moving a couple of empty squash bottles waiting to go into the recycling box. My wedding ring was sat quite happily underneath one of the bottles:T
It's really tiny so even under a clear bottle it was impossible to see. It's also irreplaceable not just because it's the ring I got married with but because it was my OH's great great grandmother's - hadn't been used for over 70 years when my inlaws offered it to me because it was too small for anyone in the family who'd got married since the great great grandmother died.
But all is good as it's found
Was planning on cleaning the bathroom but my OH says I look like I'm going to fall over so has sent me to rest for awhile instead. Hopefully get it does later because it's a mess and really needs doing.
Hope everyone's having a good day
Glad you found your ring!! I've not been able to wear mine for ages as my fingers are too swollencan still wear my engagement ring though.

My MIL's coming down next month to help us clean the house before the baby arrives - I could take this as a closet comment I'm a domestic slattern but I think she's just bored bless her.
Sore as anything today - working one morning a week is actually really taking it out of me (early years teaching so very physical and lots of climbing up and down to child level - plus as it's supply I'm not really able to get adjustments or take things easier since if you rock the boat you just get dropped) and I'll be feeling it with my pelvis for a couple of days now. Got a week off from that, then another couple and one slot after Easter which takes me toward the back end of April and then I think I'll be calling that quits by then - possibly before if I really need to but the drip drip money's nice for as long as possible. Planning on quitting with the tutoring at the start of May since that's a lot less gruelling on my body and is just a couple of hours on an evening anyway - then hopefully restarting that in September lightly and really building it up in the following years.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Emsbet I would say you will be fine with Subway for dinner, I had one the other week and all was fine - didn't even occur to me not to have it
It is nice MIL wants to be involved and it's not really her visiting I am too fussed about - OH can make excuses if I am not up to it/have had enough, I'm more concerned about her terrorising the nurses and doctors on the wardShe is very much into her alternative remedies and treatments and has a tendancy to kick up a fuss about the smallest, most insignificant things... I don't want to be on the recieving end of a nurses wrath when she has riled them up and I am stuck in there for 2-3 days :rotfl:
Wouldn't have minded a heads up before she booked the hotel; if it had been up to me she could have booked the week after when baby would be 1 week old and I would be safely at home0 -
We didn't have any visitors for the first week after DD was born and it was bliss
After that I had my mum and sister with her 5 months old son which was great because by then the flat needed a clean and they took me shopping and I did my first feed in public which is so much easier when someone else is also doing it. However I then had the MIL stay for a week and there was nothing for her to do so it was really awkward for the whole week. Not sure what will happen this time, need to have my mum around so there is someone to look after DD when I go in hospital but otherwise I want to keep everyone away for as long as possible.
I know I haven't been posting much, really busy at the mo but trying to read when I can, do shout if anyone wants any breastfeeding advice. xMum to DD born Oct 2009
