happydays77 wrote: »Icey this may well be a ridiculous question. But if you combination feed do you still have to express to keep your milk supply up at the times you are using formula? That doesnt make a lot of sense does it but i know what i mean!!your supply will adjust to how often you feed, so for example if you have 8 feeds a day and you chose to bottle feed 4 of those and breast feed 4, then if you keep that up, your milk should adjust to that.
Breast milk is basically supply and demand. Or that's how it should be.
Some people may just do top up though, so breast feed at the start of the feed and then give the formula after. It all depends how you want to do it.
I'm working on the assumption that I may not be able to produce much so will have to top up with formula, the exact workings of this are still a little vague but once Elvis deigns to show up and I can attempt the BF I will try to get myself down to one of the BF clinics and capture a counsellor and not let them go until I have a better idea of an action planWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Ok, so I have some questions to ask (probably should have asked some of them yesterday but I forgot
)
The first one is about vitamins; in the leaflet I was given by the doctor it says you should take folic acid up to 14 weeks. Is there any harm in taking it after then? The reason I ask is it in my pregnancy multivitamin. I have enough of them to last me until next week and was wondering if it was worth me buying more?
Have any of you been colouring your own hair? I read here that it's ok to colour your own hair but to just be aware you may become more sensitive to the dye. I would have preferred to have foils but I would usually get my sister to do it as she is a hair dresser but I won't be seeing her for a while and my hair has not been done since early December and I'm begining to look like a badger with these grey hairs coming through!
I was speaking to the midwife yesterday about waking up in the night with a really dry mouth and he suggested that I needed to increase my fluid intake in the day. I know I don't drink enough but he said that I should be drinking 3 litres a day  That seems a little excessive to me and I've looked online and everything I can find says about 2 litres. Anybody know which it should be? I don't think I'd be off the loo if I drank 3 litres a day!
Last one....I have been having a shooting pain on and off today that goes from just below (and slightly to the left of) my belly button down . Does this sound normal? It only lasts for 5-10 seconds then goes again and seems to be worse if I sit forward too much. I think it might be left over from my scan yesterday because that seemed to leave me feeling a bit sore where she had been pressing on my tummy.
Sorry for the stupid questions and the long ramble, I just thought I'd ask while I was thinking about these things:o

I suppose apart from being very OCD, the reason for booking the christening (silly as it may be) is that we really want bubs to wear my family christening gown, and it is small, so needs to be quick. I like the idea of the date we have picked too as it is jubilee weekend so those travelling will have an easier time as no work the next day.
I suppose that I also don't hold much belief in superstition, and am very practical, so this is just another job to do and something to organise. Maybe I should be a bit more cautious, but I think that I would rather be plannng something really happy, that our whole family will look forward to, than worrying that something might go wrong - does that make sense?
I knew the thing about 3 godparents, ie 2 men and a woman or 2 women and a man, but had a chat with the vicar that will conduct the service and he said that it is very normal nowadays with extended families etc to have more.
We have picked my two sisters and their other half's, and OH's niece and afriend of mine. A very well balanced mix I think of sensible, religious and trustworthy people that we know will be very involved in the little lady's life.
Having said all of the above, no invites or details will be sent out until she is here, just thought I could send the invites with birth announcements. xxMarried the Man of my dreams 30/08/2008Baby No.1 arrived 04/04/2012, gorgeous little girl after 4 years of fertility issues!!:j:T0 -

Hi, I took plain old tesco cheap folic acid until 14 weeks, then midwife suggested a more comprehensive vitamin, so I started on the pregnacare one that has omiga oil, folic acid and a billion other good things in - you take that right through to end of pregnancy and even whilst BF if you choose to do so. It is about £14 a pack, but it is 3 for 2 at the mo in tesco - and if you buy the three, it will get you right through. I do believe there are some cheaper versions though that others on here have been using. I chose that one as trusted the midwife.

I have dyed my hair at home with shop bought permanent ones twice since bfp, done a strand test each time though, and I have also had it coloured at the salon once, again did a strand test. I have an appointment next weds at the salon again for a last ditch tidy up before becoming a stressed, tired and !!!!!! mummy lol

I alwayd drink 2 litres a day - comes from when I was doing my diet, helps weight loss, certainly never heard of 3 litres. Don't think I could manage more than I do.

Was very normal for me until about 22 weeks I think, it was always if I had been busy, lifted stuff, walked a lot, or had a scan where they needed to press hard. Midwife said it was because of the ligaments stretching, and mine did go away in the end, although it was replaced with everywhere aching lol.

Hope that helps xMarried the Man of my dreams 30/08/2008Baby No.1 arrived 04/04/2012, gorgeous little girl after 4 years of fertility issues!!:j:T0 -
Emsbet i would imagine that pain will just be a stretching pain. I used to get them a lot when i was about 14 weeks and it just felt like someone was pinging an elastic band and would go as quick as it came.
As for the water i used to have to drink loads as i always had that dry mouth feeling aswell. I could never stop weeing and it still drives me mad now but i try not to have to much after about 8pm and then just take a glass of water to bed and sip in the night for the throat. My midwife told me about 4 of those bottles a day and that would be 2 litres so maybe yours is just being a little optimistic. Just try it and if you cant get off the toilet you can always cut down a bit.
Thanks for your advice Gilly. I was worried i would have to be breastfeeding, making bottles and expressing so that makes things a little clearer in my head.
Snoopy i think it is good that you are organised and it is definitely better to be a glass half full girl than half empty. I think its a lovely thought that you send out the invites with the birth announcement. Now can you come round mine and organise me please!!!!
Good point about asking someone Icey. Was going to ask my midwife today but she was in such a rush i didnt like to bother her. Should have just opened my mouth i suppose but will do that next time.DS1 born June 2000

Thanks Snoopy.
I'm currently taking Tesco own pregnancy vits. My midwife said to me last time that there was no/very little difference between the cheap and more expensive ones. They are almost always on 3 for 2 too so I think I'll just put them on the shopping list at the weekend.
Might do a patch test friday then dye my hair over the weekend. Wish I could go to the hairdressers and get it done but I'm being made redundant at the end of the month so should probably go with the more :money: way

Thanks. I think I'm going to try up my liquid intake a bit at a time. I currently drink around 1.5 litres which I know isn't enough so may increase it to 2 and see how it goes. I think if I went straight to 3 I would burst at the seams!

Emsbet, i have had those pains from a few days after I ovulated and still get them now occasionally.
I still take the tesco own multivits (occasionally i must admit as I keep forgetting, but did take them religiously until a few weeks ago), i asked my consultant about taking folic acid after the first 12-16 weeks and he said it won't have any effect (good or bad) on baby but is good for you as it helps you produce blood cells.
I'm very tired today, I can hardly keep my eyes open and I'm currently sharing my office with a management consultant.....falling asleep at your desk does not make a good impression lol!0 -
I just cant sit at my desk comfortably anymore. My bump is so getting in the way and making my back so sore and i feel like my arms need to grow 3 ft so i can reach the keyboard. Bad times!!!DS1 born June 2000

The only thing irritating me about my bump lately (apart from the fact Elvis is still in there) is that I end up sitting about 3 miles from my dinner plate and every night, without fail I spill something down my front!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0
