Dinah, sorry you have all this to go through!!!!! But - they are taking care of you, hope all goes well...
The first coat of paint in the nursery is on, and I quite like it! I also changed the light switch to a dimmer last night, so things are moving along. I know what furniture I want (two cots, one bought already, one still to buy on ebay, changing table to be ordered from mothercare, wardrobe from Ikea, a glider chair - ebay or maybe Boots with points I have), but I am struggling to imagine curtains/blinds in that room! It is not helped, that none of the standard nursery curtains will be fine, as the window is huge (about 220cm!!!).
Re glider chairs - has anyone got one? If so, what brand is it? I am a bit weary of buying it unseen, I would like to be able to sit on it before parting with my money, but the ones I saw in the shops are ridiculously expensive (think few hundred pounds!!!!)
Gin, I have got this.

Would defo recommend one, i didn't have one for DS but knew this was one of the only things i'd be buying as kept cot, moses basket etc from DS.0 -
A question on babies again. I am looking at getting a thermometer, and i remember my friend was highly recommending the Braun in-ear one. What have you got? Or thinking to get? Or not bothering? Any other 'health utensils' I need? Brushes, scissors, anything?
I didn't rate the in ear ones and actually just use a cheapie that goes under the arm. I don't like the head thermometer ones either.0 -
Hello everyone. Got a few minutes while waiting for midwife,Amelie is having a nap,so thought I'd do my birth story.:)
Went to the loo at about 10pm Sunday night and noticed quite a bit of blood in the bowl and on wiping,so rang the hospital and they told me to go in to get checked over. They wern't sure where the bleed was coming from but said it can just be one of those things. Put the baby on a trace and examined me,did swabs and said I was 1cm dilated, although because I had already had a child, you don't ever go back to zero apparently. Had a few tightenings but nothing more than what I had experienced the past couple of weeks really.
They wanted to keep me in overnight anyway to check on the bleeding,so we were taken to a private room for the night. Luckily hospital has been very quiet so was great full to have own room. Hubby went home about 1am. By 1.30 ish, contractions seemed to come thick, fast and very painful, but not regular. Buzzed a midwife to put my tens on,but didn't seem to do anything for the pain. Called again about half hour later for something stronger as was in agony at this point. Midwife decided to check me again and by then I was 5 cm dilated. I was shocked lol. She called my hubby to come in as "contractions were getting quite painful". He was shocked that things had happened so quickly and wasn't expecting me to be in full labour when he saw me. I was checked again about an hour later once moved to labour room and was then 8 cm dilated. They got me the gas and air which was useless by now. I s fighting an overwhelming urge to push by now. The feeling was immense. Decided an epidural was needed now,and once that kicked in,the urge to push was gone and I was so much happier. Apologised to MW who had been great but felt bad that I didn't do as she said re the not pushing lol. After about an hour of pushing,Amelie came straight out and so quick. Hubby swears if she wasn't attached to the umbilical cord, she would have flown off the bed :rotfl:
Unfortunately, have suffered a 3rd degree tear, vaginaly and rectal,so spent an hour in the theatre. The staff were great, made me laugh and feel comfortable. Even asked what music I liked and put Michael jacksons bad album on for me to listen to during the op:T
We stayed in hospital, again a private room as hospital was quiet. Was ready to go home Tuesday but Amelie wasn't feeding great so stayed til wednesday afternoon.
Really have to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Kingston. They really were amazing xxxx thanks for reading xxxx:happyloveBaby girl born 27/2/12:happylove

8 weeks!!!! Sounds like my HR then. I am finishing work in 4 weeks, taking all my annual leave, and the maternity leave officially starts on May 14th, when I am 36 weeks. So, I guess they think they have plenty of time. Did it tell you what your maternity pay is going to be month by month or anything?
nope it literally had on the dates i had requested, it never mentioned pay or pension or anything like that, total waste of time to be honest. Plus with my HR they don't want any info about annual leave just maternity so i had to sort all maternity with HR and annual leave at start (3 weeks) and end (5 weeks) with my line manager, could be made a bit more streamline and less stressful for pregnant women. I kinds just took the attitude of well i've done my bit and i'm leaving on x day weather they get back to me or not0 -
The decoration of nursery is finished!!!! The guys have left. Some pictures below. I will have a look at some stickers for the walls, and a colourful wardrobe will come from Ikea. The first cot is coming home on Sunday, so that will be a start.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

Thanks, I don't expect more than that from my HR. Although, in the letter I have requested to confirm my Statutory maternity pay and the amounts.

Afternoon Girlies and Bumpies
Gin - the nursery looks fab! Roll on getting all the cots, wardrobes and then its all ready for the new occupants :j
Dizzi - great news that your tooth is a little better now, have you been able to get antibiotics from the GP?
Who was asking about the Glider chair? I got one from ebay that was £40 with manky cushions as it had been left in a shed for several years, £15 later and new cushions its fab! The arms lift up to alter the rake of the back, I find it most comfy in the middle to upright posistion. I go in there now and sit rocking and looking at all the bits that are waiting for our girlie. I'm really looking forward to using to feed her (boob or bottle).
OMG, Holy Carp, I have just looked at the list and realised I am a boldie tomorrow, how did that happen?!!???!???Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0
