Since when NHS consultants and midwifes won't do an internal when asked? How am I supposed to know if I am dilated and effaced? :(

They said they only do them when you are in labour? :(

I think they will only do an internal if you're in labour.

R.e the sweep, I didn't have one, but can't imagine it'd be any worse than the internals you get in labour, and they're not that bad. I even had one midwife attempting to stretch me from 4cm to 5 so I could get an epidural :rotfl: I think I'd rather have one than be put on hormone drips etc as going down that route you could be in labour a whole lot longer than you would be if things start naturally.

on the subject of dealing with our furry friends.... Mozzy.. how have you got your kitties ready for baby arriving?

My cat IS my baby at the moment.. and I want to make sure he doesn't feel left out.. he sleeps at the end of our bed at the moment.. and is always jumping on my knee when its free.. that's getting harder and harder now though!!

He has full run of the house apart from 2 of our bedroms (one of which is going to be the Nursery so that's good).

I've heard of setting up the cot/crib/moses basket and putting balloons &/or tin foil in it so he doesn't want to sleep in there but apart from that I've not heard much more.

Hi. Yes I love my babies so much too. I've just told OH that we have to make as much time for them as possible. I've been getting my friends to start bringing their younger kids round so that they get used to noise. I've also got a net to put over the cotbed. I've bought some door wedges which I will use to keep the door ajar, but not enough so that they can get in the bedroom.
I've also bought them all new beds and have them right by the radiator to encourage them to sleep there.
At the end of the day, I just have to start keeping them out the bedroom. They not going to like it :(, but I'll just be sure to make them as comfortable ad possible downstairs. Oh, and I also bought them a massive new cat tree from Zooplus! :D

Speaking from experience on the being in labour a whole lot longer than you would if things started naturally, yes you would with the drips - mine was from waters going on the Monday, to DS not being born until the Friday!! And I had the sweep, gel and drip!!

Mozzy your cats are royally spoilt :)

Two random things I wish I had done:
Practice eating with one fork or spoon and dig out the lap tray.
Bought plastic trays for bedroom it's amazing how much stuff you spill..
I did dig out my paperwork ready for tax credit application but hubby had to scramble for his 10-11 p60 as needed to know exact amount etc worth sorting ur paperwork/finances as u really really can't be bothered when LO arrives lol

Edit in the next life I'd like to come back as one of ur fur babies :) !! Mozzy

I do not envy you at all, I went into labour naturally, and still needed the drip, and it still took me 10 hours to get from 5cm to 10cm  I had a 48 hour labour and thought that was bad, you're a hero.

I thought about cat nets but got told they were useless for medium to heavy cats.

My cat has a catbed but doesn't use it - he enjoys the sofa, dining room chairs or end of beds too much!

He also wont like being kept out of the bedroom - and I think he'll scratch the carpet and door to get in! I was in two minds to just keep our bedroom door open but just try to train him to stay away from baby and baby stuff.

Some American websites suggested a screen door so the cat can see through but not get in but not sure you could even get that here or whether that would just make him more annoyed!

They are indeed Ro! I've had them for 8yrs and love them to bits :D

What paperwork do I need for child benefit and to register him for his birth certificate?

GILLY - Thanks, reckon I'm going to get it done. DH said he'll come with

I had an internal and sweep at 38 1/2 weeks but only because my blood pressure was 150/99 and they thought I had preeclampsia. They weren't keen when I first went in because of risk of infection. Needless to say even though I was 1cm dilated and had the sweep, nothing has happened since except I've lost my plug a week ago now.

Re the sweep hurting, I won't deny it was very uncomfortable, but it was over with in minutes and done with. I'd rather that discomfort than the hormonal drip tbh xx

Screen doors are a great idea. I've looked loads into them, but with renting, don't see how I can get round having to drill holes. And the instant ones look useless. Another reason I'll definitely be keeping them out is to keep the hair away from the babies bed. I've got asthma, so its incase he has too.
