Really glad as until midwife appt on Wednesday, did wonder if baby was still there!
It is so difficult in the early stages. I had my dating scan at 13 weeks then didn't see a midwife until 18+3 as round here they don't do a check at 16 weeks but do it at 18 instead. Those five and 1/2 weeks were the longest. I did start to feel movement sometime between 16 and 18 weeks but I wasn't sure that's what it was. I think it was made worse by the fact that we had scans every 2 weeks in the first tri so five weeks just seemed like an eternity.

MrsBryan, I'm outraged! Not only did you jump ahead of me and actually have your baby, YOU STOLE MY NAME TOO. If I have a boy, he's going to be Teddy!
Congratulations x!

Sorry to hear that Muffin isn't here yet fluffnutter - maybe she wants to arrive on my birthday (1st July).
It's funny you should say that, sm. My current date comes from the dating scan, but I was originally given 1st July based on the IVF dates. There's a school of thought that says if you have IVF you should go with those dates because they're more accurate than the size of the baby at the dating scan.
I've always had it in the back of my mind that Muffin's not actually due til tomorrow! I'd like her/him to come on the 1st too because it's a bit of a significant date for us; because the OH is so bad with remembering dates, he arranges everything for the 1st of the month. He happens to be born on the 1st, he proposed on the 1st, we married on the 1st."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
It's also Canada day on 1st July, as well as being Princess Diana's birthday, so I always used to tell people that when I was growing up. It's one of my life ambitions to go to Canada on my birthday one year as it will be like the celebrations are for me. lol Now we have some Canadian friends, this may be possible too.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

Canada's fab. My brother used to live in Victoria on Vancouver Island. I've been a few times and travelled quite a bit in British Columbia and the Yukon. Don't know anything about the rest of the country, but the west's beautiful and everyone's really friendly."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Vitamins - better safe than sorry
Midwife appointment - I would call them and check just to be on the safe side. I'm sure you'll be OK waiting for an extra few days for an appointment, but if it worries you I think you should give them a ring. Who knows, they might be able to squeeze you in somewhere... Having said that, you could always go to the maternal assessment unit/antenatal drop-in (whatever they're called where you are!) for some reassurance if you're worried about anything before your next appointment - they're there to support and look after you and baby. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you know the signs of labour, when to call the hospital if you go into labour and check that you have the phone numbers you need - at least if something happens before your next midwife appointment you will know what to do.
Breast pump - The general advice is to wait 4-6 weeks to allow breastfeeding to be established and not confuse baby, but if baby has trouble latching on and you struggle to breastfeed, you may want to start expressing much earlier to enable baby to get breast milk and for you to keep up your milk supply whilst you keep trying to get baby to feed from your breast. I struggled, so started expressing as soon as I got home from the hospital. Five bottles is definitely enough to start with - once you see how things go, you can always buy more if you need them.
Hope this is of some help
Thanks Nutella I really appreciate your advice. I was thinking re. the midwife appointment that it might be the last one I have before baby comes – if they ask me to come back in a week when I'm past 40 weeks I probably won't be able to get an appointment at short notice again! Also the midwife I see on a Tuesday session is rubbish, it's a shame I have to see her again. I don't like her one bit. She's very abrupt and never wants to answer questions. I think I'll ring up and try and have a chat with one of the other midwives.
Re. breastfeeding, am afraid I've got an apprehensive/rather negative attitude to it as I don't like the idea of anything latching on to my mammaries! So I feel like the breast pump is my insurance against that. I feel I owe it to baby to try but it's not something I want to do long term unless somehow it all goes like a dream.
Good luck fluffnutter with your baby, I hope he/she comes soon.0 -
MissMonkeyMoo wrote: »hey Gilly, thanks for the post re cloth nappies - which ones did you buy in the end? I have persuaded OH to use them and pretty much decided on Little Lambs bamboo ones but would be interested to hear what other people recommend? Thanks! x
Sorry hun just seen this, I've got a variety, I have some LL Bamboo but they take an age to dry. I have some Tots Bots Easy Fits and Some Bumgenius.
Out of them all I think I like the bumgenius the best, the tots bots are pretty good too though xThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Morning all!
Hope everyone is well this morning.
Dizsie congrats on being team blue!
AMC sometimes if you ring and say the midwife wants to see you they'll magically have an appt or speak to midwife she might have reserve appts. But a few days shouldn't be too much of a problem. Like someone else said as long as you know where to go if labour does start.
ML yay for movement! It's so exciting when you can feel baby move, even now at 29 weeks it's still amazing me
Emsbet how you getting on with your sewing machine. I like the owl thing too. I went upstairs for graph paper to chart the lettering for the thing I had to finish, but never got to the craft room, but I got distracted.....
I thought I'd do something semi useful so starting stripping the paint of the stair bannister. Well I got a bit carried away, until I collapsed on the half landing, phone less too. Luckily at the bottom of the stairs is the landline so I managed to bump my way down and call OH who was his normal laid back self be ill be home soon...I'm like I'm stuck on the floor how long will you be?....oh darling not long can you not get to the sofa? Well if I could I would be on it wouldn't I? anyway phoned my mum for a natter and distraction. Needless to say OH came got me up and took me straight to bed.....and not in a kinky way! Needless to say I'm not in good form today, leg and arms very soreBUT.......
We have our 4d scan this afternoonSo I'm very excited :j :j :j
Although both OH and I have joked what if they say it's a girl and not a boy after all :rotfl:
Hope everyone has a nice weekend, is nice weather here.
