Thanks Ikkle I didn't think it was anything to worry about.
My theory so far was that if my stomach was larger than average before pregnancy then it would be through pregnancy and to be honest I was quite chuffed I was only 5 cms bigger than I should be. It was just the midwife's reaction that got me wondering whether I should be worried.
Don't get me started on students, there was one there for my booking in appt. Whilst the midwife was dealing with a phone call the student told me that I shouldn't have s*x or do any swimming etc until I was at least 25 weeks pregnant, my oh was traumatised.0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for the advice so far from all of you, just want to say even if I don't thank you all personally (because there's a lot of pages to catch up on!) I really am grateful.
I decided to err on the side of caution with the vitamin tablets and I bought some more Pregnacare from Boots today, but only 30 tablets, otherwise they're so expensive. I'll take them for 30 days then not get anymore, as I hope baby will be here by then (I'm 37 weeks today).
I'm a bit worried though – probably unnecessarily – but saw the midwife yesterday and she said come back in 2 weeks, but when I tried to make an appointment they were all booked up for the Tuesday and Thursday of that week, and I can't get an appointment til the 17th, which is the week I'm due! I've never had a problem of not getting an appointment before. I was thinking of ringing one of the midwives and asking if they thought it would be ok that I wouldn't be seeing anyone again for nearly 3 weeks. I guess it probably is ok but technically I could go into labour before I'm seen again. Does that matter?
I haven't had any problems so far apart from the low iron count (10.6). Baby is head down in the right position and blood pressure still ok so perhaps I should just relax? Would be grateful for any advice.
I've had a week off work so far (holiday, mat. leave starts next week) and have felt a bit like a spare part. Probably haven't done as much as I should, i.e. haven't sorted out labour bag or birth plan. I did win a Medula Swing breast pump on eBay today for £51+ £5 postage. Maybe jumping the gun but thought it would be good to have. I only have 5 bottles though, I think the general advice is that you should have a minimum of 6 and not use bottles with baby before about 4 weeks?
Thanks everyone!
Vitamins - better safe than sorry
Midwife appointment - I would call them and check just to be on the safe side. I'm sure you'll be OK waiting for an extra few days for an appointment, but if it worries you I think you should give them a ring. Who knows, they might be able to squeeze you in somewhere... Having said that, you could always go to the maternal assessment unit/antenatal drop-in (whatever they're called where you are!) for some reassurance if you're worried about anything before your next appointment - they're there to support and look after you and baby. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you know the signs of labour, when to call the hospital if you go into labour and check that you have the phone numbers you need - at least if something happens before your next midwife appointment you will know what to do.
Breast pump - The general advice is to wait 4-6 weeks to allow breastfeeding to be established and not confuse baby, but if baby has trouble latching on and you struggle to breastfeed, you may want to start expressing much earlier to enable baby to get breast milk and for you to keep up your milk supply whilst you keep trying to get baby to feed from your breast. I struggled, so started expressing as soon as I got home from the hospital. Five bottles is definitely enough to start with - once you see how things go, you can always buy more if you need them.
Hope this is of some help0 -

kittycat1977 wrote: »I had my 28 week appointment on Wednesday and the midwife measured my bump for the first time. To be honest I didn't really see the point as I was not exactly flat stomached to start with so didn't think the measurements were accurate, she said that I was measuring 33 weeks but as I already had growth scans booked that I didn't need to do anything else.
My question is does anybody else's bump measure bang on when they were overweight to start with?
Don't worry - those measurements are notoriously inaccurate and can also be affected by your baby's position; they can even decrease from one appointment to the next if baby has turned. Growth scans are far more accurate (assuming baby plays ball so they can actually see and measure what they need!) and if the midwife had been worried she would have referred you for a scan straight away.0 -
Just a quick update but we have had our 20 week scan and are having a boy xxx:jBaby Boy born December 20120
