Have you tried smelling it? I read you've to put a fresh pad on and if it's wet after 30-60mins then it's amniotic fluid. But I'm no expert so may be talking rubbish.

Kangaroo Care: Why Does It Work?

By the early 1980s, the mortality rate for premature infants in Bogota, Colombia was 70%. The babies were dying of infections and respiratory problems, as well as lack of attention paid to them by a bonded parent. “Kangaroo care” for these infants evolved out of necessity. Mothers of premature infants were given their babies to hold twenty-four hours a day—they slept with them and tucked them under their clothing as if in a kangaroo’s pouch. If a baby needed oxygen, it was administered under an oxygen hood placed on the mother’s chest.

Doctors who conducted a concurrent study of the kangaroo care noticed a precipitous drop in neonatal mortality. Babies were not only surviving, they were thriving. Currently in Bogota, babies who are born as early as ten weeks before their due date are going home within twenty-four hours! The criteria for these babies are that they be alive, able to breathe on their own, are pink and able to suck. However, their weight is followed closely, and they can be gavage-fed if necessary.

Morning ladies

Fluff, sounds promising, fingers crossed you're getting mummy cuddles soon!

slow start for me today, we've got a work away day from 2.30-10pm, so had a lay in this morning. Tried on my dress for Ascot on Saturday, and it's too tight (fitted 2 weeks ago!) but found a back up option so should be ok. Weather doesn't look good though, so may need an extra cover up layer! Think this will be last time I can get away with a non-maternity dress, but one of my sisters has a nice one I can borrow for a few months Handy being the 4th one to have a baby

Yea got told same here. Got told not to use at all if there is a history of skin issues in the family such as Eczema.

DON'T DON'T DON'T Buy the tiny balls. They are only useful for throwing at hubby wet :rotfl:Look for the big wide strips you get of cotton wool that rips off in each section. Should do for first few weeks but after that i'm with with you on the homemade washables. What fabric are you using? I have some old terry towelling that worth it or is it too hard? How about something more soft and absorbant like fleecy?

I was thinking of washable wipes as we're going to do washable nappies in any case. Are they also a no-no for newborns?

On an exciting note - the shop just called and our pram and car seat have arrived in for us to swap with the wrong ones that they delivered yesterday! Woohooo!

Just need to persuade OH that we really do need to go and do that TODAY - shouldn't be too hard as he is desperate to start playing with the pram.

At 34 weeks I began to vagely start thinking of a bag and chucked stuff into a vague pile as and when I came across it.
Now i'm 35 weeks and I dragged out my mini suitcase on wheels and the chucked stuff has been chucked in it. I have also this week checked hospital lists for things I need to buy and have purchased me pants, odd clothes from primark, pads both sanitary and breast and the long thing cotton wool.
Next week i'm 36 weeks and will seperate the 2 into mine and babies and also prepare a second case for us both to stay at home for hubby to bring in should we need more clothes - napies - pads etc etc.
37 weeks ... Check lots of hospital lists to see what i'm missing :rotfl:
38 weeks ... Should be ready?! lolol

Nothing like easing yourself into this ... mentally more than anything :eek:
