At our antenatal classes we were also told baby wipes are unsuitable for newborns, no matter what the manufacturers claim. The MW didn't actually say when it's safe to start using them though so it's good to know some people think it's 4-6 months.
Yea got told same here. Got told not to use at all if there is a history of skin issues in the family such as Eczema.

On our first night i had one of the midwives on the ward show me how to clean baby using cotton balls and warm water, it looked super easy and to be honest hadnt occured to me not to use baby wipes at all :o however when we got home and were faced with uBer poo that would ride up the back in a funnel we ditched the tiny little balls of hell and used baby wipes !

this time round ive got some top n tail cloths that came in the Huggies newborn starter pack so will use those and maybe some homemade washables
DON'T DON'T DON'T Buy the tiny balls. They are only useful for throwing at hubby wet :rotfl:Look for the big wide strips you get of cotton wool that rips off in each section. Should do for first few weeks but after that i'm with with you on the homemade washables. What fabric are you using? I have some old terry towelling that worth it or is it too hard? How about something more soft and absorbant like fleecy?

I was thinking of washable wipes as we're going to do washable nappies in any case. Are they also a no-no for newborns?

Their own FAQ's seem to think it's fine but any other thoughts? (Aside from take it easy with the essential oils)

errrrr, I'm 34 weeks tomorrow and have only just started having thoughts of hospital bags, so I wouldn't worry! I don't even have a bag, never mind anything to put in it :)

On an exciting note - the shop just called and our pram and car seat have arrived in for us to swap with the wrong ones that they delivered yesterday! Woohooo!

Just need to persuade OH that we really do need to go and do that TODAY - shouldn't be too hard as he is desperate to start playing with the pram.

At 34 weeks I began to vagely start thinking of a bag and chucked stuff into a vague pile as and when I came across it.
Now i'm 35 weeks and I dragged out my mini suitcase on wheels and the chucked stuff has been chucked in it. I have also this week checked hospital lists for things I need to buy and have purchased me pants, odd clothes from primark, pads both sanitary and breast and the long thing cotton wool.
Next week i'm 36 weeks and will seperate the 2 into mine and babies and also prepare a second case for us both to stay at home for hubby to bring in should we need more clothes - napies - pads etc etc.
37 weeks ... Check lots of hospital lists to see what i'm missing :rotfl:
38 weeks ... Should be ready?! lolol

Nothing like easing yourself into this ... mentally more than anything

We've got that set, and I'm going to use them from when we get home, although I'm not expecting to start using the washable nappies until 2 weeks or so, will see how we get on and how big Beanie turns out to be!

I would say yes. Just be very careful on oil useage. You only need (aim for 1 drop but if 2 or so go in its ok) Don't put tons of drops in the water. In regards to oils lavender and chamomille are both gentle oils that calm any rashes. The motto with oils are less is best. I was thinking the same. Just grab a bottle of lavender from sainsburies/tescos/holland blah blah and just put a drop in each time in the water. Mix well and then use as normal. The tea tree I would say is aimed at going in with the wipes for the laundry or soaking in until being laundered as this is mildly antiseptic, antifungal, bacterial etc (can't spell this early)

Yep, only the clean oils blend (lavender and chamomile) would be in contact with the baby's skin, the other oil blend is for soaking the dirty wipes.
