god i hate that at antenatal classes - mine scared me so much i didnt go back for the last two!

honestly girls its just not that bad - labour sucks but Mother Nature soon has you forgetting it (im going back for my third anyway). I firmly believe the key is good support from hubby, mam, family, friends, whoever. little things like hubby getting up in the night when you feed just so you dont feel quite like the only person in the world who is awake. If you have mam/friends to take some laundry, let them, take all offers of help that sounds good. bit of fresh air will do everyone good each day. when you think you look a bag of crap, sunnies and lipgloss definitely help when you head out for your fresh air.

    stuff classes dont tell you:

your ladybits will feel really weird - i never had the soreness but i felt completely numb, which was completely odd.
you belly will look inexplicable. it goes down pretty swift tho.
    your boobs will leak insanely
people will annoy you, particularly MIL's:rotfl:

If you're wanting the mickey take on the ante natal classes - seriously youtube up Dara O'Briain's NCT standup routine (Dara O'Briain and NCT in search is enough to bring it up)... when it gets on to "tear or cut" it is absolutely the funniest thing I've seen all year and I was crying with laughter!

As for how bad it is - with the crap the hospital pulled on us, I didn't bond with her for a very long time - it was still not the horror story it can be painted out to be... although one night in the hospital I nodded off in front of News 24 on the rubbish bedside TV (based on it being one of the few channels actually working) and did have one very very very sleep-deprived hallucination involving Ed Milliband.

The post birth hormonal truck hitting you IS pretty spectacular though, but over quickly - however stupid medical staff and very brave/foolish husbands will be using it as an excuse to discredit anything you're trying to say for a good fortnight after you're back on a hormonal even keel.

I ceased taking our classes very seriously after they got out the knitted breasts with some ridiculous air of reverence... you can't take them seriously when they're blue and green !!!!!!! In hindsight I'm quite cross at the jokes people made about them using dolls of all assorted sizes for people to hold for various things and all the comments about "oh you got the premature baby version" and "oh they don't come that small"... well ours flipping well did!

I've just got a huge bag of reusable nappies off Freecycle (I never get anything off there so I'm feeling quite chuffed with myself) - wanted to try them but the initial outlay is hideous so never did! And the baby is now 8lb 2 and starting to catch up and move up the centiles on the growth charts... still gets mistaken for a newborn or few-week-older though!

    Morning all!

Love the cot fluffnutter. Your room is so tidy as well! The nursery being ready in time for Bean's arrival is still a distant dream at the moment though, as we still need to make up our mind about the other furniture going in there, as well as finding storage for the stuff that's currently in there.

Well the main routes to where I'll be working this afternoon seem to be clear at the moment :) , so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they stay that way and aren't closed when I'm trying to make my way home again. Keep refreshing the local radio station's website for travel info. As this is my qualifying week for maternity pay, it's really important that I work enough.

Well my lunchbox is packed (did it yesterday just in case I had work then), so I just need to get dressed and check my work bag has everything in it that I need. I think I may be visiting nursing homes with my parents this morning if we can get to them ok, as we've decided to move my Nana as the home she's in isn't looking after her properly.

Hope everything has gone well for Triangle - ETA just seen we cross-posted. Fingers crossed for today for you.

Labour vibes for those who want them, and hugs for everyone who wants one.

Oh well, 41 weeks today! I've got midwife this afternoon so she can try and do another sweep and hopefully she'll book me in for an induction. I'm getting really fed-up with it all now, didn't think I'd go so far over with my second. I can't seem to motivate myself to do anything!

    Good luck today BB.

Triangle, I'm glad you feel supported. At least they are on top of things and monitoring you properly. Sounds like it will not be long until you are having your mummy cuddles.

((hugs)) choclover, I hope things get started for you soon.

    Hiya Ladies,

Had our booking review yesterday (17+2) and originally we had not planeed for OH to come along as he works so far it would mean a whole days holiday for a 20 minute appt but after a bit of drama in the morning with getting to work in this weather, he ended up being home anyway which worked out well for me lol as he done lots of housework :D

Midwife took my BP (100/70) and checked my iron levels and apparently they are all perfect but i did have some keytones in my urine so not drinking enough water that day :(

Babies heartbeat is between 130 and 140 which apprently is also very good and we even heard the baby kick the doppler away for interfering lol!

OH is very happy that his baby is 'cooking' in there well so I have one happy man at the moment :)

Had my first emotional hormonal cry last night... my OH really is a wonderful man who works so hard and loves me so much but had a horrendous childhood and had to bring himself up it makes me sad that I had syuch a lovely childhood and that he really needed to be rescued but also incredibly proud of the man he has become and what he is prepared to do for us (me and the baby) so i was sobbing my heart out. OH asked what was wrong and gave me a cuddle but told me to stop crying about it because he is fine, but I could tell he was really flatered that I think he is so amazing.

Hope everybody is doing ok xxx

Gonna copy this over to 12-24 weeks thread so sorry if you read both xxx

Morning all and labour vibes to those that need them. I've been lurking the thread this morning - DD is nearly 5 months old now . It seems like only yesterday I was on here waiting for her to arrive (and she did make me wait - due 2nd Jan and arrived 14th!!).

Just seeing the comments about antenatal classes and I'm sorry to hear that some have just been scary. Ideally you should be prepared for anything that could happen and informed about your choices. Try to take that from it not the fear, please!

Every labour is different and it is a very short time in the grand scheme of things. I've heard every tale going from short and swift to long and complicated, and I'm sure you have too. I went in hoping for straightforward but aware of what options there would be if baby wasn't going to play that game.

The best moment of my life so far was seeing my little girl in DH's arms a couple of minutes after she was born. I was shattered beyond belief but it made every moment worthwhile. As it happens, it was a straightforward birth although I had to have a tear repaired surgically afterwards.

You will be hormonal afterwards, but it is highs and lows. They are such hard work, and although everyone will tell you that until you have to do it you have no idea what that means! I've sat crying with her for hours when I couldn't get her to settle, but I've also spent time laughing with and at her; just staring at her for hours; cuddled up with her sleeping on my chest - a load of different beautiful little moments that outweigh the hard ones. We still have hard days and nights but more wonderful ones!

I think I'm rambling a little, sorry! But I wanted to add support to the other comments from 'the other side'. I'm tired a lot of the time, and she's still a lot of hard work, but I'd do it again!

Thanks Triangle, to the best of my knowledge I have a day home alone today. So going to get on with some exam marking and just keep my feet up. I'm so bored of being at home already.

I want a bag...I keep looking but can't make any decisions.

Morning everyone, have to go to the docs today, they need to chase my 20 week scan, and after a day of feeling really positive yesterday today i feel a bit overwhelmed. I have been reading everyones posts and they have helped, if not made me a tiny bit worried about going to antenatal classes and i still have a long way to go! I seem to be all over the place at the moment and im hoping this is a normal reaction to the news?
That said i am over the moon that my OH feels the need to allow me to put my feet up every night after he gets in and tries desperately to feel her move (i think he maybe slightly jelous that i have felt it but i have told him its a bit early for kicks yet). I also feel lucky to be with my parents as im not sure i could cope on my own just yet, i panic at everything and am trying to keep myself calm so i dont upset the baby.

Fluffnutter i love your cot, makes me feel unorganised, i havnt even started looking at anything, though i couldnt resist a little babygro i saw yesty and just had to order it. Is there a list anywhere of the basics you will need? If i can help it i would like to avoid having to panic buy in 4months time.

Thanks to everyone that has welcomed me too, it seems like a lovely community with lots of support. Hugs to everyone.

I go through phases Vikki. I've been ok until work advertised my maternity leave...then I thought, OMG I'm having a baby! Stupid woman. You would think the gut and the kicking baby might have given that away. :rotfl:
