Soooo .. if you have a few holiday days left when you do on maternity leave, what happens with them if your boss isn't happy to let them roll over? Can you be paid for them?
You still accrue annual leave whilst on Mat. I booked up and used all of this years leave before starting mat leave. That means when I go back next year all I need to worry about is using that leave and not this year aswell.

Trouble is I dont think I will get a chance to 'use' it and take it as odd holiday days or a week off in the next 17 weeks as work is so hectic and stressful as always, plus I'm trying to train someone. I'd rather it was tagged onto the beginning or end of my maternity leave really, or to be paid for it would be the best option :)

Very valid point about using loos on trains, I normally manage to avoid that as far as possible but I doubt I will be able to by then!

My Little Lambs nappies arrived today, delivery was completely pain-free - the courier they use warns you the day before and offers the option of changing the date in advance; then on the day gives you a 1 hour window when they will deliver! Should really unpack my box and see precisely what's in there :)

Thats what I did. Arranged what date I wanted to start and just booked it back from then.I wanted to cut my hours down so I worked a 3 day week for a bit - then 2 and then a 1 day week and easied myself into mat leave. That way it wasn't so much of a shock aswell.

As I understand it maternity must start on a Sunday. I thought it had to be the week before the EDD at the latest. You still accrue annual leave through out the pregnancy.
I work for the NHS and the policy says I can only take five annual leave days to next year (we run April to April). So it's up to me to book up annual leave and take it before I start maternity leave.
Your company may pay you for the leave if it's not convient to take it, however if I don't take mine I'll lose most of it. Or they may roll some over
For me I also get paid for bank holidays I think whilst on Mat leave. I'm not sure if this applies to others too or is a company thing getting extra money/ days in lieu for BHs.
Can't remember who said that if you take annual leave prior to maternity leave and give birth then, then maternity leave starts at tht point. I believe in my case this is true also, but again I'm not sure if it's a general country thing or company based. I think for those who have preemies etc prior to mat leave etc this applies also. Whether you'd then loose any hold or they'd let you carry those days over I don't know.

Wow that was a ramble, but that's how i understood it from studying my maternity policy the other day.

Miss Bunbury welcome and congrats. Sounds like you've got the preparations well underway with gathering baby gear. But you've got a lot of work with the house etc.

Emsbet....er sounds weird to say congrats lol, but congrats on the leaky boobies :D

After the awful night yday I'm already tucked up in bed and eyes closing. Hope everyone sleeps well and has a nice rest and pain free night. Night night

    Hello ladies

Congrats to Turtle, Jovi, Nora and Teerah :j

I'm afraid I am definitely queue jumping....after midwife concerns over measuring large for dates the last couple of weeks (which I wasn't worried about) I had to take another GTT this week and have a growth scan. Whilist I don't have gestational diabetes the result was 'impaired' so combined with a growth scan showing the baby is large (which I know can also be quite inaccurate - hoping so, she's a whopper if they're right) I am being induced on Sunday night when I am 38 weeks. My initial reaction was shock and fear (only found out today) and also guilt that although I've eaten healthily I have had plenty of treats too and I thought I had put my baby at risk, I am now feeling a bit more ok about it. Apparently I haven't 'caused' this it's just one of those things. On the plus side knowing in advance what's happening I have organised where my daughter will be when we go to hospital, I hope to be rid of the pelvic pain and other discomfort of late pregnancy and of course we get to meet our baby soon. I am still scared at the prospect of labour, having been through it before I am remembering how much it hurts! But I also know it's so worth it in the end. I am more scared about LO arriving safely than anything else but that's normal whatever the circumstances. We've packed the last few things in my hospital bag tonight (the rummaging around the midwife did earlier may kick start things before Sunday) and I am so glad I was organised a few weeks ago and washed sleepsuits, vests and bedding. Got a Tesco grocery order arriving tomorrow afternoon with last things I wanted to be fully stocked up on - sooo glad I did that the other day now. So now I just need to try and relax and pretend I am not scared....

Big hugs to anyone that needs them
    xx

It's really interesting to read all your comments about maternity pay etc as I have my meeting with work at the end of the month to organise mine.

I'm hoping they will let me start my maternity at 35 weeks, 6 weeks holiday before hand and then I will only need a sick note for another 3 weeks. That's all in a hypothetical world where everything works out my way of course, work could drag their feet over it if they wanted to, which I'm kind of expecting.

OH starts his new job on Sunday :) Extra hours, more money, hooray!

Emsbet - congrats on the leaky boobs lol, mine just hurt like hell, had a very strange dream last night that I was in hospital and they stuck a pad on my nipple and it imitated the sucking reflex to make my milk come in, woke up in bloody agony.

Had a bit of a melt down earlier because my best friend was meant to be coming over tomorrow and then messaged me tonight to say she had forgotten and had made other plans, which made me feel poop because surely she could have told the other person she forgot she already had plans instead of just dropping me for a better offer, she then discussed her big plans for tomorrow on facebook.

I don't get on here much at the mo, I still read but it's normally on my phone with the odd reply here and there, sorry xxx
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
