Griggsy I'm worried about how my Mummy's boy cat is going to take the baby too - he is a real scaredy cat, and if any of our friends have come over with their babies, he's hidden upstairs or outside, and refused to come in til they're gone. He'd been guarding me in bed up until recently, but seems to prefer being outside now - don't know if it's purely cos of the hot weather or because I started leaking at around the same time. I'm hoping to get the nursery furniture bought and put up soon though so he has time to get used to that being in "his room" - he goes on the spare room bed when we're out. I'm more worried he'll run away when Bean arrives rather than that he'll do anything to the baby. I'm hoping that if I continue to spoil him rotten that he'll be ok though. We'll ask our vet when he goes for his vaccinations this month for some advice too.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    Re cats.

I have two that have def been my surrogate babies over the years! I am a bit worried that they're going to be jealous, so I took a book called The Cat Whisperer out of the library.

It recommended making as few changes as possible after baby is born - i.e. bring in changes beforehand if possible. For example, we stopped letting our cats sleep in our room a couple of months back, so that they don't associate the baby with them being kicked out. I do miss them though! Also recommended was to withdraw some fuss beforehand, then make an extra effort to give them more fuss and treats etc when baby arrives. That way they associate baby with good things!

No idea if it'll work, but we'll see...! :)

On another note, I am having quite nasty period-type pain right now... :( Intermingled with Braxton Hicks, not fun. I'm sure it's not anything exciting, this'll prob continue for the next 3 weeks...!

Not sure what to do with myself though. DH has gone to a birthday party (I was supposed to go too, but went for a nap and didn't wake up in time to go...! He did wake me up but I fell asleep again and he obviously thought I needed the rest...all well and good but that means I don't get any cake!!!)

Braxton hicks aren't meant to have pain I thought. Maybe it's the start of something. Try paracetamol and moving and if they don't go away I would start timing

Yep - if you scroll back a couple of months you'll find posts from me wondering if I should worry about period-type pains that came on regular intervals... day later I had the baby early!

Just found what I think is a bit of a bargain which sadly I cant use as already ordered my car seat, but for those of you thinking about getting the maxi cosi pebble Boots have it online for £130 just now. If you go through quidco there is a 10% off code which brings the price down to £117 and you get boots points worth about £20 plus possibly 8% quidco. They also have other car seats but I'm not too sure about the prices as I came across this when looking for reviews etc on the pebble but you can still use the 10% off code.

Thanks, just ordered the pebble and family fix base, I'd been looking out for an offer :) Got 10% off both (£234 total), plus should get £19 cashback on quidco and over £30 of advantage card points :j

    Afternoon all :)
17 weeks tomorrow, the time seems to be flying by since our 12 week scan! We're on holidays this week as it's DH's birthday next Sunday. We were originally hoping to go away somewhere, but we didn't book anything, and then ended up spending £1800 in a week on car repairs, so we're stopping at home instead.

This afternoon we started the big rearrangement to get our house ready for the baby, turned the bed in the spare room round 90 degrees so we could fit the PC desk in there to make more space in our room. Tomorrow we're off to IKEA to buy a new large chest of drawers and wardrobe to replace our two old drawers, and very fetching canvas wardrobe, so all our bedroom furniture will match for the first time ever! :j It's a bit like furniture tetris though :rotfl:

This will make space to move the bookshelf from what will be Beanie's room into our room so we can start to get sorted in there. It's a box room so there's not much space in there, and it's full of junk :o Hoping to get it mostly cleared by the end of the week ready for painting, apart from the sofa bed which will stay till we get the nursery furniture in the autumn. Also need to sort through the baby bits which are already in there and make a list to make sure I don't overpurchase. We're only planning on using disposables for the first 10 days, and then switching to our washables, and thanks to vouchers etc I think I've probably got enough to last now.

I'm off for lunch with one of my sisters on Friday, to go through my list of baby stuff and see what they can hand on. My youngest niece was born this January, so they'll be finished with lots of the 0-6 month stuff by November. Mostly excited about getting some lovely niece cuddles though, I haven't seen them since Easter, and all our other family were there too so only got limited baby time. (the perils of a large family, you have to fight for cuddles :rotfl:)

GRIGGSY your not actually supposed to use quilts in cots with young babies, just blankets so you could just buy sheets and a few blankets x

Oh didn't know this. I had been looking at all the cot bedding sets in ToysRus etc and couldn't find one I liked so thought maybe I could do my own. I have lots of hand knitted blankies from my mum so will see if they fit. Plus we were thinking of using the grow bag things as well so she wouldn't really need any covers etc.

Our cot is just going to sit and look pretty in the babies room for a little while as we have a really pretty crib for him which will be in our room, we've got plenty of sheets and blankets and a couple of sleeping bags too.

    GRIGGSY,

My MIL chopped up some old bed sheets she had to make bedding for our children, they were old white sheets (like the kind that you get in hospital) and washed and kept so much better than any that we purchased. She added a hem on them so they didnt look naff, much better than i could manage ! Perhaps look in local charity shops and see what you can find ?

as for the cats, I have a shadow who is 'my' cat & OH has one too and we shared 2 girl cats who no-one claimed (for good reason ;))

When my first baby came along my cat didnt seem too fussed, we let them in the bedroom with us during the day but were kept out at night time when we could but they would dig at the door until we caved and let them in ! They didnt ever go near baby mostly but my cat would sit on the pillow with us when i was breastfeeding, he would lay along his side and cuddle in.

Dont ever recall having to keep them away or any problems caused by the cats, mostly they just accepted that the baby was here and got on with it. now my cat sits with my DS2 just as much as he does me.
