Well! I saw a doctor today, not a consultant (what's the difference??) ...but anyway she was a breath of frsh air compared to the otheres. She examined me and baby before anything was suggested, asked me lots of questions and referred back in my notes several times, and in the end said she is mildly concerned about the bp, and has increased my beta blockers to 600mg a day (you can have up to 2000mg a day of these ones while prego) so still a relatively low dose, and said looking at my history and talking to me today she would prefer if i went in to labour naturally!!! Finally!!! However she did also explain the risks of high bp so I am booked in for an induction next thursday, but she gave stern instructions to bump to hurry up in the mean time lol!

So fingers crossed things get going ASAP, but while baby is engaged, my cervix is still closed, hmm. But I feel like a massive weight has been lifted. I have been worrying about too much interference and a difficult labour and so on, and she just calmly answered all my questions, explained everything fully, and i actually feel ok about the fact I may be induced on thursday. Bet if she took my BP now itd be much lower!!

Well! I saw a doctor today, not a consultant (what's the difference??)

Doctors specialise, so you'll have surgeons, and GPs, and gynaecologists etc. In each discipline, in terms of fully qualified doctors you'll have registrars and consultants. Consultants are just the ones with the most training, typically you'll see anybody - they're all qualified. They're all called 'doctors'.

I assume you've seen the obstetrician registrar, rather than the actual consultant (they're very busy people and typically do less clinical work anyway - lots of golf though I've heard ;)).

Either way, it's not important. What is fantastic is that you've clearly seen someone who's got a great way of explaining things and has put your mind at rest :)

Question for you girls. At my 26 week midwife appt she said I was measuring 31 but only wrote 29 in my notes. I don't have another appointment until 34 weeks but I was wondering I should ask for an appointment before that as I measured myself today and at 29 I'm measuring 33 weeks. This is above the 90th centile in my notes chart. Any advice ?

Did she write 29 cm or 29 weeks?
You could've measured 31cm and be on the 90th percentile for 29 weeks
Or she could've measured you as 29cm and be between the 10th & 50th percentile for 31 weeks - unlikely at 26 weeks without them deciding you needed a growth scan but who really knows how midwives' minds work :p

The fundus height thing is very subjective and not particularly accurate so I wouldn't worry about your own measurements as it's likely you did it in a different way to your midwife.
However if you are worried there's no harm in giving your midwife a ring and asking her, they're there to help and it's better than fretting.

Out of curiosity (if you don't mind) how did you measure it yourself?
Mine has always been measured while I've been lying flat on my back and there's no way I could measure from top to bottom in that position by myself.

She marked 29 on my fundal height chart. My chart has a line across the bottom where it says how many weeks you are then the other axis is the measurement they take. But she told me verbally she measured 31. Either way it's still giant lol

I did mine exactly same way as midwife. My fundal height is very obvious as baby is carrying quite low. And I did it lying down in sane position she did.
love you lots like jelly tots :o

Thats great turtlemoose! Bet you wanted to hug her! Glad she reassured you.

fluffnutter, I think turtle was 40 weeks yesterday? Sorry if I'm wrong!

Had a busy couple of hours, OH woke up about 1pm (he's on nights) so I've hoovered the house top to bottom, cleaned the bathroom, mopped the floors and put 2 loads of washing on.

Then my brother came round with an anniversary card for us so stayed for a bit and had a cuppa. Then we got a massive bunch of flowers delivered from my mum and dad! :D So lovely of them, they are so thoughtful. Now I'm having a 10 minute rest, OH is playing COD (loser!) before I start dinner as he is back in work for 6pm!
Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference :)

    That's great to hear, turtle.

Fluffnutter, we haven't found out the sex of our little one either, and I've had 6 scans now, four of which were in the last few weeks. I just tell the sonographer that we don't want to know. To be honest I can't decipher a damn thing any more, baby is so huge that it just looks like a series of big blobs, with the odd hand or foot sweeping across the screen in a rather ominous fashion...! I'm not sure I'd notice a willy or fanny amongst it all! ;)
