ladymorticia yay for kitty
don't know if you've seen earlier on the thread but theres a few of us with bump-loving cats. Mine loves to drape herself across the bottom of it and purr, in return she gets pummelled in the back/belly - I think its like a massage chair for her!

My cats are really not sure about all the baby stuff that seems to be appearing in the house... :rotfl: They are in for a shock, bless 'em.
I have been having SERIOUS braxton hicks all avo...to the point where they're actually a bit painful and make me stop what I'm doing to breathe! When I was being monitored on tues I had two that registered high enough on the scale for the midwife to say they were labour level...!
Don't come yet baby, I'm not quite ready for you...!

Evening all! Just watched the Parent Trap Tonight special on childcare costs - scary stuff! I'm lucky that my Mum has volunteered to look after Bean for a couple of days a week, but I'm sure that I'm going to have to pay her something as it's not very fair to expect her to look after him for nothing. I want to stay at home for as long as possible before he's old enough to go to school, so I'm hoping that if the new scheme of 2-year-olds going to nursery for so many hours per week for free takes off, that this will mean that I can send him to nursery when he's 2 for a couple of days a week, provided I can still afford to pay for the petrol for supply teaching by that point. I know it's a long way off, but I can't help but worry about these things. I've even been considering the possibility of becoming a childminder myself, but I know that they earn a pittance, so not sure if all of the Ofsted and paperwork etc involved would be worth it. Moon doesn't earn a huge amount as he works in retail for a small family business, so not sure how we will afford for me to work too if we do have to pay for childcare. Is anyone else who currently works considering giving up work completely when their child is born?
Had the first day of a 2-day course today at a 5* hotel, and met some other lovely supply teachers. It was nice to meet other supply teachers as usually when you're in a school, you never see each other, so it can be rather an isolating job. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, and the course leader said that we may finish a bit earlier tomorrow too, so I plan to have a quick wander around the shops whilst I'm there afterwards, as the hotel have given us free carparking.
All this talk of bump measuring has got me really excited for my next midwife appointment, as it'll be the first time I've been measured, so I'm intrigued to know how Bean is on the charts - everyone keeps on telling me how tiny I look for nearly 6 months, but I hope this isn't a bad thing. I think my uterus must be quite high up though, as I'm feeling some of the kicks under my ribs already (23wks + 4), and it may explain the heartburn if my tummy has been squashed up for a while. He's certainly a jumping Bean. lol
Just been looking at that list to see when everyone is due, and noticed that fluffnutter's due date says 2011! lol Muffin must be well overdue by now - no wonder you want her out!
Well I'm off to put my feet up and watch Maternity Ward.
Hugs to all who need or want them, and labour vibes where appropriate.

I did supply, and when we did the sums - it's just not viable anymore to continue with it with the baby here - the work's dried up so much anyway that we've had to go down to one car and elaborate morning-arrangements for getting both of us to the right place when I had work bookings - that it's just silly to pay out for childcare on the offchance of a day's work (I've gone from a steady 3-4 days a week work - I never want full-time - to 2-3 days a half-term this year with constant pressure to cut my daily rate). In the end - my SPD got so bad I couldn't work much past 22 weeks - and the baby came at 33 weeks anyway!
Always used to like comparing notes with other supplies when you'd end up in a school together - more than anything else it was nice to compare notes about schools where you'd felt badly treated and realise it wasn't just you - they were like that to everyone!
I've found tutoring to be quite in-demand around my area - that's picked up as a little source of income when I don't need childcare arranged as hubby's home from work... and SATs marking (but I couldn't do that this year as the due date of baby clashed with the busy time).Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

im having an awful day today
Dont know what to do with myself, im so miserable and my groin pain is horrific - poor boys dont know what happened to mummy today but she is a right mardy cow !
Just wanted to ask where others around the 24 week mark are feeling their kicks ? all of mine are just above my hairline in the centre or right in my bits so low it feels like he is poking out , i dont ever remember getting them this low for so long ! Ive not had any to the side of my belly and only on odd occasions have I had them at my belly button.
Wondering if im getting so much pain in my groin due to how he is lying ?Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -
haha turtle, I don't mind a game on the Wii and used to love my atari and spectrum back in the day but I can't stand COD or any shooting games, does my nut in!!
sexymouse I would love to give up work for good but just cannot afford it at the mo, unfortunately. My work are very flexible and my plan is to go back after 9 months for 2 days a week at first (my mum having baby one day and MIL having baby one day, plus OH works shifts so might mean they only have to have baby for a few hours) and then maybe do more hours if I need/want to.
OH earns too much for us to qualify for any working tax credits.
He may have a chance for a big promotion next year which, if he gets it, will mean we could afford for me not to work so will see how it goes! Its so hard though.
But then back in my mums day there was no maternity pay, no tax credits etc and they coped. Don't know how but they did!Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference0
