    Morning!

How is everyone today? Not as hot thank God! Although I'm still not chancing putting my engagement and wedding rings back on yet just incase!

    Welcome again to the newbies!

Hugs to rjh and emsbet for your sore hips and no sleep :(
My spd has got a bit better lately but I have literally had my feet up for most of the day, every day this week. I think thats helped, although I've got a busy weekend so will probably be in agony come Monday!

Its our 1st wedding anniversary today! Wow, can't believe how quick its gone, so crazy! This time last year I was enjoying a glass of wine with my bridesmaids on the balcolny of our hotel in Zante! It really was the best day of our lives but think the birth of our little boy will top it! :D

You all give such good advice on here, you're all like a giant baby encylopedia, love it!

Had MW yesterday, baby still measuring up huge, 40 weeks! Am only 36 weeks! She wasn't too fussed. In fact, she's really laid back about most things! My bp has always fluctuated between 128/69 to 140/70, so its interesting that you're on a consultant led care for high bp fluffnutter, as my MW seems to think mine is fine. Although, is it the lower number that they monitor more?

Babys head is right in my pelvis which is good apparantley and although baby is a fat bum, they said to see how things progress naturally with labour and I will be kept an eye on. Reassuring! Also on iron tabs as blood count has gone down to 9.1 :o

    Have a good day people!

rebekah once i had stopped laughing at it, I was quite impressed at their idea - where else could you put it anyway?!

mrsbryan happy anniversary! And yes its really the bottom number they monitor. The top number would increase if you jogged on the spot for a few mins but the bottom number should only rise a little bit or not at all. In my area, 140/90 is cause for concern and to be monitored for pre-eclampsia - I don't get released from fetal assessment until that bottom number hits 89! Any reading with 100 of higher here and they start visibly flapping (which makes me panic and therefore makes my BP higher. Idiots!), and if i get two over 100 on the bottom on the same day then its an automatic overnight stay.

It's all just getting more confusing :(

With my BP, my lower figure (diastolic) has been significantly higher than yours, although my top figure (systolic) has not been as high. Both are important but it's the fact that my bottom figure goes over 80 that indicates raised pressure. When measuring systolic they're looking for figures over 130 - 140 so really your blood pressure seems higher than average too. I think it's the systolic that goes up more if you're stressed/running around although it's always something that's been a mystery to me...

It's interesting to hear about your measurements too. I saw the MW this morning - bump's measuring 37cm at 36+1 and I've been sent for a scan

You don't seem dissimilar to me and yet your MW isn't at all concerned. What's going on??

Mrsmanda Good timing, I read the NICE guidelines for high blood pressure in pregnancy last night and found it quite annoying ...it says you should not be told "bed rest" because that doesn't lower BP.....guess what my consultant told me..... And also officially, technically, my BP is actually only MILDLY high (not even moderate) which the NICE guidelines say just needs monitoring not treatment.....but I'm on beta blockers..,,errrrr makes me wonder if the consultant even knows what they are on about.

    What's your blood pressure, turtle?

Hi all, sorry people are having problems with their consultants.

Unfortunately the NICE guidelines are just that guidelines and not all medical professionals will follow them. Although it would be great if they all used the same rules rather than worrying people constantly.

fluff at home/midwife/fetal assessment, its anywhere from 118/68 (perfectly normal!) But usually hovers around 120-140/85-96.

My highest was something like 162/102 which completely freaked the hospital out, but then I was having a very stressful day and was in A&E at the time and had, of course, convinced myself something terrible was wrong with bump.

    Ahhhh proper confusing!!

I thought that 140 was high and said so to MW but she said, no no its fine, if it was going up and up every time then there would be a problem but one week it could be 128/69, next app it would be 140/70, then the next app it would be 131/65! Thats why she said she wasn't worried as it flucuates. Hmmm......have to go by what they say I suppose?

Also, I can suffer from what they call 'white coat syndrome'. Before getting pregnant, I visited my doctors probably 5 times in 13 years, never been ill or had anything that wrong with me, the odd bought of flu and an ingrown toenail!
So when I do go, I get a bit nervous and my bp shoots up. At my first app to get my pregnancy confirmed, my bp came out as 145/89 so had to be re-checked again and again. At booking app, it was 128/60. So, I dunno! So many factors can affect it.

It must be different areas then fluffnutter.......at 33 weeks I measured up 36 weeks so was sent for a growth scan. MW said she has a guideline of 2cm each way...if I measured up 35cm she wouldn't have sent me but because it was 36cm she had to. Scan showed that baby was larger than average but consultant said nothing to worry about and that was it. You're only measuring up 1cm more and are being sent for a scan so it must be to do with certain areas and their protocols! I'm in Essex, just out of curiosity where are you? xx

My health care trust (if they still exist) is Portsmouth. I thought they had a leeway of 2cm either way, but even so, she's still referred me with an increase of 1cm. I think it might be because the growth's suddenly shot up, i.e. doesn't seem consistent.

Plus I was banging on about shoulder dystocia this morning and she knows that I'm paranoid about it for some reason. I think she's trying to reassure me, tbh, because obviously one of the risk factors for shoulder dystocia is a big baby.

What with my blood pressure and the fact that this baby is going to be 32 stone at birth, I think an induction around my due date is increasingly likely :( At least when we have the scan we'll get to see Muffin again (although we'll have to remind the sonographer that we don't know what sex he/she is. Imagine getting this far only to have someone say 'Ooh, he's a lively one' or show you a big picture of an unmistakeable fanny. :D)

Personally I'm quite happy to go into labour naturally around the 38 week mark. Any tips? :D
