Phew, it's hot hot hot. Normally I'd be outside at the first hint of sun, with a cold beer (or 5) and a book - but at 39+1 today I cannot bear the heat and instead am hiding in the living room wearing not a lot and not moving much either as it's too uncomfortable!
Had another bad experience at the hospital today - they really wind me up! I had a routine antenatal review appointment at 11:10....got called in at 12:15, so that's annoying enough to start with. I had literally just sat down (hadn't even taken my bag off) and the consultant said "ok we're going to do a sweep today". I asked why, and she started to explain what a sweep is. I interrupted and said that I know what the procedure involves, I'd like to know the reason why I will be having one. She then said "because I have read your notes and that's what I think we should do today". I pointed out that she hadn't examined either me or the baby, and that I would prefer to be examined before a decision or recommendation is made. She huffed and puffed a bit, then fake-smiled and said "ok will you allow me to examine you?" and it came across really ars*y. My BP was high (bottom number was 103 which is usually admission time!) x 3, so she said "now will you let me do a sweep?" - I said yes, as I have no objection to the sweep if it is required not just randomly. She proceded to then really hurt me, and couldn't do it anyway as my cervix is fully closed.
Got sent to fetal medicine for monitoring while they waited on blood results. Over there, where there's actual midwives (instead of doctors/consultants), chairs suitable for heavily pregnant ladies and an all-round more relaxed atmosphere, my BP measured well within normal range 3 times over the space of an hour. My blood results came back perfectly fine, and was sent home - next appointment is Tuesday with my own MW and that's just a standard appt.
So I am now sulking, and think that consultants are idiots (that's 2 now who have insisted on a sweep without either a) examining me/baby or b) asking my consent), and also I now have a dull ache up there after her rooting about for no good reason, and none too gently!!0 -

Right well I'm still feeling not right after my funny turn on Tuesday and getting overheated at work because of the stupid building conditions. Anyway, it's 26 degrees in my room today according to my HOD despite all the measures they've taken.
I've told them I'm not going back this week, and I'm due to see midwife on Tuesday. I'm just debating what to do about Monday if it's still hot. I'm really starting to stress out about it. I can't see the situation having changed by then.
As for consultants...I agree - they aren't human. Weird the lot of them.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Twinklie, can you get your occupational health department to amend your risk assessment to say you can't work over a certain temperature? Get a note from GP if possible. It would then be up to your boss/department to provide a solution, eg portable air con or something?Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Occupational health don't do our risk assessments - the business manager of the school does. But I'm going to ask the midwife about this on Tuesday (there is a doc there as well if I need to get something off them).
I've asked about an air con unit. Trouble is, the ones we've had so far we couldn't use in teaching areas because they were too loud! We shall see.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

thanks
I've stopped sulking now (mostly!) and not too sore any more, but it is very frustrating to be treated as a case not a person. If it was just me I think I wouldn't mind so much but it's my baby we're dealing with here and it really frustrates me that, after being kept waiting over an hour, a medical decision was made without examining me (or bump).
If that's the way they're going to do it then surely I don't need to go wait in their dirty, hot, uncomfortable waiting room for over an hour? Surely if they know it all so well then they can just read my notes and treat me immediately upon arrival??? IDIOTS. No wonder my BP soars every time I'm in that damn clinic!
On another note - met a male midwife today which did amuse me!!! I suppose they must exist but hadn't thought about it before - anyone else seen one? I'm guessing they must be fairly rare?!?!0 -
I had a male midwife for my appointment after the dating scan. He was really nice
