  • quite an interesting read this thread :)

I applied and got accepted for the right account.... But looking at all this, not sure it's worth all the hassle. I've been out of the country so am past my 14 day cooling off period...hope it's still simple to cancel; I just chucked a tenner at the sort/account number they gave me, to hopefully avoid Halifax's massive overdraft fees

Just got my credit report and it's come back as "excellent", so I can only assume they've turned me down because they don't want to steal a customer from another lloyds group bank.

I guess they'll lose me altogether as I'm going for the santander offer now.
  • Branch will insist that you switch the credits as they have been told this is part of the incentive, although no welcome calls need to be done any longer (unless bos).

this quality control team, only remove the £100 for customers who apply online or on phone and it comes back no direct debits, not looking out for credits coming in. if you have spent the £100 then they cant do nothing!
  • Applied online last Thursday, received welcome pack Wednesday with form to send off for salary change and advised that they would be sending me a list of direct debits to check. £100 in the account today, and debit card arrived in the post. I'm very impressed so far!

I just signed up to one of these accounts to get the free £100, I wasn't aware that there was a £10 charge a month for the reward account, so I have asked and after 30days I can downgrade the account so it is free, so £90/80 profit depending how many months they charge me. I can boost that by £5 if I transfer £1000 in.

So everyone with multiply reward accounts are paying £10 a/m, to make a £5 back, loosing £5 a month or are you on different accounts???

There is no charge for the Reward account.
The Ultimate Reward account costs £15 per month.

Mmm He said, that the only account you could open to get the free £100 was the ultimate reward account which ive now got, and it was £10? Website says its £15 and you can get a reward account or a current account and still get the free £100, looks like ive been messed about, I will sort it tomorrow:mad: Thanks,

Each halifax branch seems to make up their own terms and conditions for the offer.

They say £10 in branch as they assume you'll be paying in at least £1000/month, so you'll be getting the £5/month 'reward'.
  • The branch will try and persuade you to take the URCA as its more points for them towards there bonus. Go back to branch and demand to downgrade to the reward account, they wont be too happy as it'll affect there points.

  • HALIFAX - WHAT A WASTE OF VALUEABLE TIME...SORT OUT YOUR SYSTEMS...

I have just had a nightmare trying to open a Halifax Reward account and wasted 2 hours this morning. I didn't "pass their phone identity verification" even though I have had a Halifax Investment account and I am a current Intelligent Finance customer (owned by Royal Bank of Scotland - ie a division of this bank). I was told I would have to go into a bank to complete the account application...but they could get me any appointments at my nearest 4 branches in the month of February.

I was then told to do the application online - I would get a letter and then instead of an appointment I would just have to show my ID in the branch. When I tried to complete the online application...using my IF current account details...it then kept asking me to type in a non-Halifax account number...so had to make a 3rd phone call to be told that the "computer" sees my IF sort code as part of Halifax and therefore I actually can't do the application online.

What a waste of time...would not recommend this bank to anyone...very poor systems....even the call centre staff complained that this new identity verification system (put in November 2011) doesn't verify existing customers....no wonder you cant get an appointment to show your ID!
