Halifax £100 lure was a complete & utter waste of time for me

The "crystal clear" T's&C's are turning out to be not as clear as some people thought.:rotfl:0
-
They're not stupid - they know some people will try it on for a free £100 and they will do their best to stop it.!!
Then why didn't they explain the T's&C's fully in the 1st place!?Do people really think a bank would give away free money for getting no business in return?! Get real !!
Errmmm yes. Some of us have had free money from Halifax's previous offer, and from Santander's.:D0 -
This means they can do what they like!

Hi, you aren't the first to say this. The Halifax guy Whitewater shows the same viewpoint above when he wrote:
"Are you just annoyed that a bank isnt going to just give money away for no reason?
If you dont wanna do the full switch dont, but dont expect the bank to pay you for it"
Seems like a rash comment and short-sighted if you ask me! I mean this point of view that the bank gets no business in return is nonsense as if we take my case for example: I was highly likely once my Halifax account was setup and I was pleased with Halifax for giving me £100; to actually change which account I pay my salary into to the new Halifax current account incentivised by the further reward of £5 a mth, so Halifax would have got my future business. My salary.
I figured that these days banks have to have a competitve edge, to get people to switch bank accounts you know banks DO struggle to get people to switch. In fact the Telegraph said in December that "Statistically you are more likely to get divorced than switch your bank account but Santander aims to buck this trend by offering customers a £330 carrot" Halifax are advertising the £100 switcheroonie all over the place which is all part of the marketing drive that costs them money to win new custom I thought the £100 was all part of the cost of winning that new customer on the expectations that most will become loyal, longstanding customers.
& yes some people would try it on! I wasn't planning to though and nor would the majority I would guess? I mean £5 a mth is tempting and I don't think other banks are doing it, so surely most would end up being actual customers.
I dunno, it's just been a bit of a waste of time and a let down really! Anyway it's sparked off some interesting debates so far here and I think every one knows that it's made one thing clear, that the T&Cs sure aren'tCheers, Nick Staley, Inventor of the Wheelie Bin Cover Invention.0 -
The regular £5 a mth lure was not enough to get me interested, but add a £100 brucie bonus to it and they got my attention!Cheers, Nick Staley, Inventor of the Wheelie Bin Cover Invention.0

No it doesn't mean they cam do what they like.
It means they can change the published terms or withdraw the offer at any time.
As others have already said the incentive is there to attract new customers who can be cross sold other products.
Some may join for the incentive only if Halifax wanted to minimise that they should have had an extra condition that stated something along the lines of:-
"To qualify for the incentive your salary (minimum £1000pm) must be paid into your account by direct credit for the 3 months following completion of transfer."
No such condition exists.
Whitewater has asserted that a Salary needs to be paid in without specifying a minimum amount.
If that is the case then the "Quality" control department are imposing their own arbitary rules not supported by the published conditions.0 -
Sigh! Whinge and moan as much as you like, if they turn you down there's not a lot you can do about.0

. And their decision making over some of the applications proves that.

... if they turn you down there's not a lot you can do about. >
The problem is they are accepting you as per the published Ts&Cs (in my eyes that is a "contract" of sorts), then applying further verbal conditions that may or may not have been said in a branch.
If I had gone for this offer under the written terms and the £100 were to be removed under other vague terms, I would be firing off complaints to the usual bodies.
Halifax have messed up here.0 -

To be blunt, collectively moaning about it on an internet forum isn't going to change anything. If people think they can change it, they need to get off their backsides and do something about it (petition, official complaints, ombudsman, whatever). Arguing about what *you* think the T&Cs mean, achieves nothing.
Unfortunately I suspect the majority of people here are just blowing hot air from the safety of their keyboards. If people can't be bothered to actually move their salary and payments to qualify correctly for the £100 then I doubt they can be bothered to actually get off their butts and try and prove that Halifax are wrong and get them to change!! To be honest it would be a lot less hassle for someone to just change their bank account over than put up a fight over morales!!
I would honestly love to be proved wrong and for someone to prove Halifax are wrong but I suspect it won't happen. Here's hoping anyway.0 -
The only people I'm trying to convince/warn are those that are considering taking up the offer. And those that might suddenly find they have their £100 removed under certain circumstances.0
